Sky: The latest on Milan’s pursuit of a new playmaker including the identikit set

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are hunting for a new attacking midfielder but they do not necessarily have to be a guaranteed starter, according to a report.

Brahim Diaz re-joined the Rossoneri on a two-year loan from Real Madrid, but now Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara must take another player in that role to replace Hakan Calhanoglu who chose to join rivals Inter on a free transfer.

A number of different profiles have been linked with a move such as James Rodriguez of Everton, Isco of Real Madrid, Hakim Ziyech of Chelsea, Marcel Sabitzer of RB Leipzig and others, but at the moment there does not seem to be a stand-out target.

The well-known journalist Luca Marchetti spoke during a segment for Sky (via MilanLive) about Milan’s pursuit of a new forward and confirmed that the management will sign a new player in that position.

Josip Ilicic is an option as per Marchetti, given that he is leaving Atalanta, but with any deal it depends on the conditions because the Rossoneri would like to complete a loan operation. The management need an alter ego to Brahim Diaz, and not necessarily a starter.

  1. Milan do realise any new player will need time to adjust to their tactics and to a nee place.
This is an important role to strengthen. We cant afford to sign a player on the last day and expect him to perform at a top level

  2. If we don’t sign a starter that basically means our team is as it was last season or it is worse. Anything within top 4 would be good enough for me tbh
