Sky: The next steps in Leao’s recovery plan – Atalanta hope remains

By Ben Dixon -

Ahead of AC Milan’s clash against Atalanta this weekend, they have been given the boost of the potential return of Rafael Leao.

The Portuguese winger underwent an MRI earlier today, and it seemed he would likely miss the game in Bergamo. Although his injury had healed, neither the player nor the club wanted to rush his return to avoid risking overworking him.

However, this evening, there has been an update regarding his situation. Sky (Via MilanNews) has reported that the winger took to the training pitch on Tuesday. Adding, if he can continue to raise his levels on Wednesday and Thursday, he could feature on Saturday against La Dea, at least from the bench.

If the 24-year-old fulfills this, it will be his first appearance since his injury against Lecce on November 11th.

Today’s news means Leao should almost definitely be available for the pivotal Champions League game against Newcastle next Wednesday, which offers the Rossoneri a huge boost, and finally some positivity in the midst of their injury crisis.

  1. Do not rush him for Atalanta. Id say rest him and start him for Newcastle. Only bring Leao in flr atalanta around the 60th if we are a goal down.
