Sky: Thiaw returns to group training in the presence of Ibrahimovic at Milanello

By Isak Möller -

Malick Thiaw has returned to group training with AC Milan after being sidelined for over two months. Of course, this is great news for the Rossoneri who have struggled in the centre-back position in recent months.

Thiaw sustained a hamstring injury in the Champions League clash between Milan and Borussia Dortmund at the end of November. Since then, he has been working hard to recover and today, that work finally paid off as he returned to group training.

This was reported by Sky Italia (via MilanNews), also stating that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was present at Milanello for the session. It will likely take some time for Thiaw to regain fitness, but the Rossoneri could perhaps have him back against Monza next weekend.

Meanwhile, Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori are still on the sidelines, although the latter’s return shouldn’t be far away either. The Englishman also sustained a hamstring injury – in late December against Salernitana – but it wasn’t as serious as Thiaw’s.

Stefano Pioli will continue to rely on Matteo Gabbia and Simon Kjaer on Sunday as Milan will take on Napoli. It’s a big game for the Rossoneri, out for revenge after a 2-2 draw in their reverse fixture.

  1. Great – now when tomori gets back Milan will be a new team. Fiks presence alone gives milan so much, allows us to play forward without fear.

    1. I guess you don’t remember how Thiaw vs Kean played out? We aren’t designed for man marking in transition, yet that’s how Pioli has us playing.

Our defensive issues are mostly due to the system Pioli uses.

    1. It should have been Gabbia & Simic while Kjaer comes in later in games, Simic would have really developed and trusted by now, but our great coach does his thing, very great at killing the moral of players, even gabbia would soon fall victim, the moment thiaw & tomori gets back, he wouldn’t rotate to give them enough rest and allow other players to grow
