Sky: Tomori excluded from England squad to face Italy but not due to injury

By Oliver Fisher -

Fikayo Tomori will not take part in England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy at Wembley tonight as Gareth Southgate has left him out of the squad.

Tomori’s excellent form so far this season saw him earn a recall to the England squad for the current internationals, starting the 1-0 friendly win against Australia on Friday night and generally performing well.

He has been one of the best defenders in Serie A and that led many to think he would be given another chance against Italy tonight, who obviously feature a number of players that Tomori has played against multiple times.

However, Sky are reporting that Tomori and Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah are both not even in the matchday squad for the game at Wembley between the Three Lions and the Azzurri, and there are no injury problems for either player.

Whether that means Tomori will return to Milanello early remains to be seen, but it will certainly be a personal disappointment for him.

    1. I’m not so sure it is good for us. The longer he is snubbed by England the more of a tole it will take on him personaly/professionaly
He has earned his chance with England and I think it would really boost his confidence

      1. There was a report about 6 months ago that Southgate would not be the England manager after the Euro’s, and they are trying to replace him with Graham Potter, so maybe under him, he will get his hard earned chances.

  1. This may mean the Maguire to Milan story was a tongue-in-cheek reponse. Maguire will be persuaded not to go to Milan as he will lose his position. A master stroke by Southgate.

  2. Hope england lose again vs italy. Southgate more prefer playing clown like McGuire, who only playing 2 times un MU this season. What a joke england coach.
