AC Milan and Brescia have had an agreement in place for Sandro Tonali for several days now. The only thing missing for the player to become a Milan player are the medicals and contract signature but in the meantime, he has chosen his jersey number with the club.
As reported by Peppe Di Stefano (via milannews.it), Sky Sport‘s correspondent for Milan, the player has chosen to wear number 8 as his shirt number. The reason for this is that it was worn in the past by Gennaro Gattuso, who is Tonali’s childhood idol.
According to Di Stefano’s colleague Gianluca Di Marzio (via tuttonapoli.net), the player himself even contacted Gattuso to ask him for his permission to wear the number. The two reportedly have a very positive relationship and thus the permission was, of course, granted.
In the next couple of hours, Tonali is expected to arrive in Milano and undergo his medical examinations at the La Madonnina clinic. After that, there will be the final step – the contract signature after which the youngster will officially join the club.
