Sky journalist offers update on Milan’s striker pursuit: “I think this could be the budget”

By Oliver Fisher -

Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano has confirmed that AC Milan plan to invest in a striker ahead of next season and gave an idea on the kind of budget they will have available.

The management will have to carefully plan their strategy in view of the summer because they have put off an investment in a centre-forward for the future for some time now, while Olivier Giroud and Luka Jovic are on expiring contracts too.

There have been a number of different targets linked in the media from Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna to others that currently play around Europe, but it seems that the time has come (or will come in the summer) to finally push the boat out.

Prior to last night’s game between Rennes and Milan in the Europa League, journalist Peppe Di Stefano spoke on Sky about what Geoffrey Moncada and co. are thinking, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Giroud is approaching 38 and the doors, Furlani said, are open. But it is clear that Milan must make some rather strong choices from this point of view,” he said.

“They need to invest, and they need to invest in a striker like Zirkzee, a player that Milan can perhaps try to buy for a figure close to €40m, I think this could be the budget.

“And then – it will depend on which striker arrives – Milan are thinking of keeping Jovic because he is a player appreciated in the dressing room, who scores goals.

“We must consider that he, together with Loftus-Cheek, has been Milan’s top scorer since 2 December. He experienced a first part of the season where he wasn’t in good physical condition and a second part, however, where he was the protagonist.

“He is Milan’s best performing player in terms of the ratio of goals scored to minutes played.”
