Sky journalist explains why Milan’s Zirkzee pursuit is complicated and lists ‘other names’

By Oliver Fisher -

There has been a lot of noise over the past week or so about Joshua Zirkzee getting closer to joining AC Milan, but a Sky journalist has added a touch of realism to proceedings.

Calciomercato.com reported yesterday that during a recent meeting, Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Milan’s consultant and the Senior Advisor to the ownership group RedBird Capital – presented to Zirkzee the project of the club for next year.

The Swede made it known that he would play a leading role as the starting centre-forward and Zirkzee gave Ibra his approval to the idea of a move to Milan. However, there is obviously still plenty more to do before the deal is completed.

Manuele Baiocchini spoke to Sky about Milan’s priority in the transfer market regarding the starting striker, revealing complications in the race for Zirkzee. His comments were relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“Zirkzee’s profile is of interest and to AC Milan’s liking, but it is not so much Bologna that will have to decide but Bayern Munich which has the right to buy back at 40 million euros. The costs that have been proposed to Milan by the agents, especially for commissions, are very high,” he said.

Milan are thus also into consideration some alternatives which, as explained by Baiocchini, have not changed: Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig and Jonathan David from Lille. However, the Slovenian seems increasingly distant given the interest from Arsenal and high clause.

“The other names are those of Sesko, David of Lille, who knows Fonseca well,” the Sky reporter added.

  1. So, according to this they are not sure if they want to pay 40mil + commisions for Zirkzee, but they are going all in for Gimenez with 60mil + commisions according to article before this one. Dont believe anything because those are just speculations that anyone can make.

    1. Well, we can make an assumption that by looking at how RedBird operates, they don’t like paying high fees to agents (which I personally 100% agree with).

So it is likely that Milan won’t get a player that has a greedy agent – so no Zirkzee and no Sesko.

      1. Hasn’t Milan operated that way since Raiola & Gigio f*cked things up? “Enough is enough” said Maldini and they haven’t paid insane figures to the agents ever since. Nor they should.

  2. His agent asked 15m euro for commission. Thats too much for 22 years player. That also will make total cost 55m euro. Unless his agent reduced that 15m euro fee to 5m euro , i dont think zirkzee will coming

  3. Here we go with the reports …..all year long Zirkzee, Sesko, David etc … end of summer Fonseca says Colombo is a world class striker and we never needed a striker in the first place. Colombo and Jovic will bring us to the promise land of 4th place….if we are lucky ofc
