Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed to us his belief that AC Milan have the ‘perfect project’ at the moment at board and at playing level.
Milan are top of the league which not many people expected, and on our podcast we asked him for his thoughts on the leadership of Elliott Management, Maldini, Gazidis and Pioli, plus whether the pieces are finally falling into place.
“In my opinion, we have to say only congrats to AC Milan just because they are doing amazing work. You know better than me there have been really difficult years for Milan as with Inter, so we had the Milano clubs in a difficult situation,” Romano said.
“Milan now since Zlatan arrived are doing really an amazing job, also I’d say they have a small secret that is the same as a lot of important clubs that are doing amazing work are doing, so for example Atalanta – I always mention Atalanta when I mention clubs really smart in the market – Milan are going in this direction.
“Doing simple things on the market, this market means doing simple things and doing it well. That’s how Paolo Maldini is working, with Massara who is an amazing director. They are always doing what they need, nothing special, nothing different, not rebuilding everything.
“I still remember the summer [2017] when you had obviously people trying to destroy everything and coming with new players like Bonucci… now they’re being really smart, going with experienced players, starting with young players coming, really it’s the perfect project in this moment with the great work of Stefano Pioli. Really we have to say congrats to him.
“I feel a positive atmosphere around the club, it’s not just on the pitch but also off the pitch with the directors, it’s really a great atmosphere. Players – when they are talking about Milan – have always felt the history of the club, but now they also feel there is an important project with experienced leaders like Zlatan, but also top young players ready to be on the pitch and show their skills.
“So in my opinion when you add these two components, you have the perfect mix in football.”
