SM: How Milan are currently likely to line up against Inter in the derby

By Oliver Fisher -

Although there are still several days left before the derby between AC Milan and Inter, news is starting to filter out regarding the probable line-up that Stefano Pioli will field.

The build-up has been far from ideal for Pioli given that 15 players left to go and represent their countries during the international break while there have been injury scares regarding Olivier Giroud, Theo Hernandez, Mike Maignan and Pierre Kalulu.

According to SempreMilan.it, the feeling is that Giroud will be ok to start the game against Inter, while for Maignan and Theo everything seems to be resolved and they will be in the line-up as normal.

Kalulu suffered a muscle problem yesterday at Milanello. The French central defender will be subjected to new tests in the next few hours and given there are still six days until the game there are no estimates.

However, muscle injuries require careful treatment and that is why at present it is more likely that Pioli goes with Simon Kjaer alongside Malick Thiaw, given the simultaneous disqualification of Fikayo Tomori.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Kjaer, Theo Hernandez; Krunic, Reijnders, Loftus-Cheek; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

“A statement now confirms that Paul Pogba has been provisionally suspended after failing a doping test after Juventus played against Udinese in Serie A on August 20.”

😀 juventus will always be infamous cheaters and it doesnt seem to change any time soon.

          1. Oh yeah thats right greenwood and anthony as well being volatile lately 😀 well i always liked cantonas karate retaliation against the crowd even though it was an quite dumb thing to do at the same time.
When that is said i also recollect boriello from milan getting a ban at some point in the 00s for illegal substances or something,
bernard lama of psg smoking a doobie in the early 00s was one of the more fun though even though its not on the level of real doping.

  1. Don’t understand why people are complaining, if isn’t broken, don’t fix it, line-up has worked and has won us the first 3 games. Kjaer will probably only play the first 60 minutes, people are quick to write him off forgetting he’s still the same guy that pocketed Harry Kane last season. We should be good.

    1. What was the point of adding depth to the bench if the line up that started in preseason will continue starting 4 matches deep in the season in the name if it’s not broke don’t fix it?Not that I’m complaining after all the most important thing is the win but I can’t help but wonder, Giroud will play what is arguably the toughest game of the serie A season and he is recovering from a slight injury, others like pulisic and Leao will continue to start even if they might still be suffering from jet lag, so when will the subs start if not now? Losing to inter now won’t hurt because obviously Milan can’t win 38 out of 38 games, realistically speaking, but if Pioli strains the starting line up now just when the schedule is thickening what’s going to happen when they play 7 games in 22 days? If Giroud plays sure they might win, but what if he worsens his issue? Or worse what if he worsens his issue and they still lose? he might be out for a few weeks because let’s face it, he’s no spring chicken, but that would come at such a bad time. If a bench player doesn’t start now then the issue is clear, Pioli doesn’t trust all his players just like last season, because he’s willing to risk Giroud and players who haven’t had a break than start a bench player(meaning there is a bench full of Vrancx’s and adli’s)plus IF Milan loses you’ll all sacrifice Pioli for starting exhausted or recently injured players rather than starting his ‘deep’ bench😂

No need for a toxic debate it’s just food for thought.😉

      1. I seriously doubt they will suffer from jet lag 6 days later, and Chukwueze would be as bad off as Pulisic in that regard for example.

The time for rotation havent really come yet, it will when the champions league and the cup starts and its 3 or 4 days between games. Why change a winning team when the schedule doesnt require it yet?

That said, Pioli doesnt start to rotate or do more early subs between the Inter game and Genoa game when we play twice a week, then I would be worried. Then there is another international break ahead of Juve where alot of our key players will just have 1 game .

  2. I have been following Pulisic since 2016 when he started at Dortmund. As a young player he was primarily used off the bench as a player that could change games. He is the top scorer for the US team
    and has primarily started games.
Chelsea was a nightmare where they had four managers in just the last season. Milan will probably play him as a starter and off the bench.
