SM: January mercato update – Kessie for sale; latest on Ibrahimovic and Demiral; Rakitic and Can options

By Vito Angele -

Less than two months until the market reopens, Milan have begun to move to prepare the strategy for January.

Zvonomir Boban and Paolo Maldini, as we told you about a month ago, have changed strategy. In January, in fact, the group will have to be propped up with experienced players, already trained and ready, without forgetting those who may leave the club.

KESSIE FOR SALE

The real headline is that Franck Kessie no longer fits into the Milan project, something which the player has already learned, expressing unprofessional behaviour in training resulting in not being called up against Juventus.

For the Ivorian, Milan are asking for at least €20million. From the Premier, Wolves could make an offer which would see Kessie reunite with Patrick Cutrone, while there is a more difficult road leading to Monaco.

What matters is that Milan – with the sale of Kessie – hopes to add a nice treasure to the budget for January.

IBRA SI, IBRA NO

The dream of the Rossoneri fans, without a doubt, is to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a Milan shirt again.

At the start Milan looked reluctant towards a possible return of the Swede: they considered the attack complete and would prefer to enhance the players in the squad already: Rebic and Leao over all, and then Piatek.

However, the last few games has set an alarm bell off. Ibrahimovic could be decisive also from the mental point of view, it could be that shock that would awaken the whole environment and that would then act as a mother hen for the young, but above all for Piatek: this is why the club is really thinking about it based on a contract of 18 months.

Certainly it will be necessary to hurry also because the offers for Ibra are not lacking, with Bologna currently pushing hard to sign him. But it is known that, if Milan decided to definitively sink the blow, Ibra would not think twice about returning to the Rossoneri.

THE DEFENCE AND OTHER OBJECTIVES

Marco Giampaolo expressed the lack of a quality centre-back while he was in charge, an aspect that Pioli also reiterated, which is why Milan intends to allocate an extra budget for a new defender.

Merih Demiral’s name is still alive, but Juventus are asking for €30m. Demiral has already asked his compatriot Calhanoglu for information on a possible transfer to the Rossoneri.

Milan are also ready to seize market opportunities in other departments, such as the midfield where players like Ivan Rakitic.

It is also rumoured, via Turkish sources, that Emre Can could also be a solution for the midfield. The former Liverpool man is pushing to change team already in January to return to being a key player.
