SM: Maignan avoids serious muscle problem and will be monitored daily – the latest

Mike Maignan has avoided a serious muscle injury but he is almost certain to miss AC Milan’s weekend game against Hellas Verona, we have learned.

There was a fair bit of panic 10 minutes left on the clock in last night’s 0-0 draw against Newcastle United as Maignan dropped to the ground with what looked like a muscle problem, forcing Marco Sportiello to come on for the closing stages.

According to what is being reported by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Maignan suffered a strain of the flexor muscle of his left thigh. The MRI performed this morning ruled out anything serious, and the evolution of his condition will be monitored daily.

The French goalkeeper is still expected miss the match against Hellas Verona on Saturday afternoon at San Siro, and will be replaced by Sportiello as he was last night, but he could be available again for the match in Cagliari next week.

  1. Nothing serious… see you in January. He is amazing goalkeeper don’t get me wrong but if this injury will keep him away from football for 2-3 weeks we should consider selling Mike.

  2. Mike Maignan was never an injury prone player at Lille.
Maybe u should consider looking into it medical team because EVERY PLAYER IN AC MILAN IS INJURY PRONE…

You can tell me if I’m wrong.
Considering our previous season after the banter era minus this season that we have multiple new players, starting from last 3 seasons, last 2 seasons that we won the scudetto, last season and it still continues this season.

You can’t just blame a player for getting injured often because he’s playing for a team u support without looking back to his fitness in his previous clubs, check ur medical team or fitness team the problem is within and it will continue if it’s not fished out.

    1. Even in the banter era we had this problem. After Meersseman left the Milan lab and they had replaced the pitches with the artificial turf/natural grass mix it all went downhill from there. I’d say about after 2007 but there were signs even before that. I swear it’s the pitches at Milan do contribute. But I think for Mike it might be how he plays, his physique and how he runs. He’s very flat footed making him rely on his calves for quick jumping and overloading that with too many games results in injuries

  3. “EVERY PLAYER IN AC MILAN IS INJURY PRONE…

You can tell me if I’m wrong.”

You are wrong. How many matches has Theo missed due to injuries? Giroud? Tomori? Leao? Yep. You’re wrong.
