SM: Milan put forward new offer to Rabiot – why Moncada is determined to land him

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s interest in signing Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer is very much concrete, we can confirm, and a new bid to the midfielder has been made.

According to what our colleagues at SempreMilan.it have learned, Milan have made another contract offer to Rabiot, who remains without a team after saying goodbye to Juventus at the beginning of the summer.

The reason that he is yet to find a new team is that Frenchman’s entourage want him to earn €7m net per season, which is more or less what he was getting from the Bianconeri before he decided to leave.

However, as the days go by, the financial demands also seem to have lowered. Rabiot does not want to leave Europe but to continue playing in the Champions League to earn a place in the French national team for the future.

Milan are one of the clubs that has moved most concretely, given that Geoffrey Moncada is a great admirer of the former Paris Saint-Germain man, and in these hours they have formulated a new offer.

In the eyes of the management, Rabiot would be what Fonseca’s project needs: a physically strong player who can give balance to the midfield, without losing effectiveness in the possession phase. He also adds a lot of experience, and is versatile in his role.

It is precisely the strength of the attempt shown by Milan that have pushed Rabiot to seriously consider a transfer to the Rossoneri. The obstacle, however, remains his salary, with Milan aiming to reach a deal at €5m net per season (excluding bonuses).

The gap between the offer and demand is still wide but time is running out for Rabiot. The Frenchman would like to find his new team before the international break so he can have time to settle in.

The arrival of Rabiot would also not exclude the purchase of Koné, which however is subordinate to the sale of Ismael Bennacer. The Algerian is currently out of Fonseca’s plans, with Saudi clubs and Atletico Madrid having enquired.

  1. So we want to get rid of Bennacer for Rabiot??? Are we actually French national team?!

    In: Rabiot, Koné, Abraham
    Out: Bennacer, Saelemakers, Jovic

    Moncada needs to be circumcised…

      1. It’s been unsuccessful mercato for Furlani and his merry boys!
Failure again and this time to Roma, previously to Atalanta, Inter, Man Utd, and Juve.
Furlani and boys want Rabbit instead of Bennacer? REALLY boys?
Milan have names the have big questions in management, Moncada, Furlani, Ibrahimovic, and the icing on top of the cake FONSECA. We all hope he can secure a win over Lazio or will door be shown to this project as well.
The very best of luck to the Milan faithful for this nonsense management.

    1. What’s the problem with upgrading from a French player that wasn’t good enough to play for the French NT to one that is a starter for the French NT?

        1. Lol he was born in France, he played for France u18 and u19 before switching to Algeria.
So no he hasn’t been playing for Algeria since u17 at least.

          1. Doesn’t mean much. Diaz has playing for Spain all his life with the youngsters and choose Morocco in the end.
It was Bennacer who choose Algeria and he was in a position where he could have chosen France or even Morocco instead.

          2. @Giga94 you just proved my point
Brahim Diaz just like Bennacer wasn’t good enough to play for Spain so he decided to switch to Moroco.
“a French player that wasn’t good enough to play for the French NT”
Both Bennacer and Brahim went thru France and Spain youth NT teams, and when it came to moving up to the senior team they weren’t good enough so they chose other countries.

    2. Did you remember we used to have Dutch Trio: Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard… now we shoud have French Trio: Fofana, Rabiot, Theo

  2. Hmmm…
I can only but watch on as Moncada and Furlani paddle the boat, at this point I see the panick buying as a result of UCL matches… I wish us good luck.

  3. If they get Rabiot and give him a contract, let’s say.. 6-7m a year/3 years. Then they for sure need to step up the contracts of Theo and Mike

  4. If they can sign Rabiot for 5 mil a year thats acceptable. But they need to give Theo and Maignan 6 mil a year then to not upset the balance.

Fofana/Rabiot/Reijnders would be a midfield just below world class. Still third best in Serie A after Inter and Juventus, but much closer then before.

  5. I don’t understand. Rabiot is another ball carrier, another box to box. He is an excellent player, but not what we need.
It is similar to Fofana and he plays on the left side that is the best position for Reijnders.
We again did not sign a real DM.

      1. I think Milan’s idea is for a DM to clean up and drive the ball forward. Doesn’t seem like they are looking for pure DM’s.

      1. Can Fofana play in that position? Pep only has Rodri, and when he doesn’t play, Kovacic is in that position. We will agree that Kovačić is not DM 😊. Players today are flexible and can play in multiple positions. Don’t be a slave to formations, because that doesn’t mean anything on the field, it’s important that everyone does what is asked of him, not what the transfer market gives him.

  6. Kone to Roma is a done deal. Let’s get Rabbiot and make 433 as our certain pattern. With all the box to boxes we have, it’s only make sense.

    1. Your reference to Inter and Man City couldn’t have gone unnoticed.
These teams are blessed with two great tacticians who build their strength around their players and improvise when the guaranteed are not available.

Inter Milan: DM – Brozovic, Inter had to change their style of play to accommodate Chalanoglu in that position when Brozovic left. Moreover, they have the numbers (5) in midfield to absorb pressure in the midfield.

Man City doesn’t play the same way when Rodri and Kovacic play. Wonder why when Fernandinho left, they spent a club record fee to sign Rodri? Is Pep a slave to formation?

At Ac Milan, fielding players out of their preferred roles doesn’t work because the team doesn’t move like a machine yet.
The last time we won a trophy, we had functional DM – Tonali and Bennacer, and we had Kessie which was perfect for our play.
But today, we play a 4-2-4 formation.

I strongly recommend we switch to a 4-3-3 formation to bring balance and numbers to the midfield. Having Bennacer in the middle (he is the only true DM we currently have) and Fofana by his right and Rabiot to his left should be ideal. But I think that would be unfair to Reijnders (the darling of everyone) but for me, he’s not really that good, but I just feel something for him even though I know he’s overhyped.

  8. He is a France starter and all but I don’t know. He may be great or may be mediocre. If he does come whats the set up? Who sits?

    4 2 3 1

    Calabria tomori pavlo theo
    Fofana rabiot
    Pulisic reijnders?? Leao
    Morata

    4 3 3

    Same defence

    Reijnders fofana rabiot
    Pulisic Morata leao

On paper, our team looks solid. On field, look like lecce.

  9. Rabiot at anything less than 6mil/year is a fantastic addition and the upper hand in the negotiations is with Milan, since he had gotten no offers.

He is very underrated – not a name that jumps at you, but he would be an upgrade over Benny. He will run a lot and do the dirty work. Has goals in him too.

Fofana/Reijnders/Rabiot would be pretty solid in the middle.

  10. We are supposedly getting Rabiot LOLOLOLOLO for 5M/season?????? AND NO COMMISSION?????? Is his mom suddenly banging Moncada and Fulani up the ar$e????? Hahahahahahahaha!!!!

    Dream…dream dream dream dream…Dream😝😝😝😝😝

What’s even more comical is the Redbird Lovers actually believing this is going to happen 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡. Yikes!!!!!!

  11. So we’re gonna blow the last of the money on another b2b mid who downs tools about once per year, and can’t defend to save his life…

  12. A 4-3-3 with Rabiot, Fofana and Reijnders would work.

Currently, to be ironic, we’re playing 2-0-8. Everybody presses forward, leaving huge spaces behind them, and Tomori and Pavlovic are left to fend for their lives when the opponents obviously counter-attack and score at will.

A 4-3-3 would fit better the players we currently have, would provide balance, more solid defense, and with Rabiot this formation would work even better.

However, this article is dated. Koné went to Rome, the window has closed, and even though Rabiot is unattached free agent and can be signed outside the window, our team is too bloated and we can’t register everybody for the lists. I doubt it will happen. But like I said, it would have been good if it did happen.
