AC Milan look set to welcome their latest young talent to the ranks as Jordi Escobar is about to arrive from Valencia.
According to journalist Salva Gomis on Twitter though, Milan have secured the signing of Escobar for a compensation fee of €2.5million. He will put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the Rossoneri and will leave on loan for FC Groningen immediately.
We spoke exclusively with Gomis about the situation related to the 18-year-old striker.
Is the deal definitely done? Can we expect an announcement soon?
“The deal is not definitely closed. But here in Valencia they believe that the departure could be made official tomorrow.”
Have Milan followed the player for a while?
“Milan wanted him back in January.”
He will join Groningen this summer on loan?
“The Groningen thing is not yet clear either.”
Is this a big loss for Valencia?
“It is a big loss because he is a young international with Spain and has huge potential.”
What kind of a player is Escobar? Position, strengths, weaknesses?
“He is a tall, fast centre-forward with great technique. In youth teams he scored many goals and knows how to move very well.”
