SM: Milan’s defensive operations – Romagnoli, Donnarumma renewal latest; €40m duo targeted

By Vito Angele -

As we continue to discuss the possible restart of Italian football -which appears to be looking more and more likely – Milan continues to think about the next season, and yet another reboot.

It will be a new start without Lucas Biglia – the Argentine, as was predictable, will not renew. Another goodbye will be that of Giacomo Bonaventura as the club, despite Jack’s will to renew his contract, decided to continue with their youth policy and as a result there will be no extension.

Many teams are interested in the Rossoneri midfielder, but in the last few hours, according to information collected by SempreMilan.com, it is his former club Atalanta who are in pole position. Bonaventura would be happy to return to Bergamo, where there would be Giampiero Gasperini, a very welcome coach who could further enhance him.

In addition to Atalanta there is also Torino, but with the same offers Jack would have no doubts: he wants to return to Bergamo and play the Champions League.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as said several times, does not want to retire and would like to play at the top level for another year. However, from Milan for now there have been no signals regarding a renewal. Upon returning, however, Ibrahimovic has requested and obtained a meeting with the company.

A new-look defence

With regards the incoming market, the diktat seems to be the usual: young and strong. In this regard, the situation of Musacchio and Kjaer will be monitored; one of the two may not stay because Milan is moving with great conviction in search of a central defender.

The two names on Moncada’s notebook are Kristoffer Ajer, the Norwegian defender who plays for Celtic, and the rising star Boubacar Kamara of Marseille. For both the valuation starts at €20million and competition is high.

Milan are also looking for a right-back as Conti and Calabria do not convince and one of the two could leave: the former is easier to imagine, perhaps on loan.

Everything is silent on the situation of Gianluigi Donnarumma. A sensational renewal is not to be excluded: both because at the moment no important offers have been received (given the situation of COVID-19 which will inevitably lower the ratings of the players) and because Gigio would like to stay.

The one who will definitely renew is captain Alessio Romagnoli. His contract expires in June 2022 and his new deal will most likely see his yearly salary rise from €3.5m to €4.5m on a contract expiring in June 2024. However, at the moment there is no rush, with the renewal operation which should be pure formality.
