SM: Milan’s probable XI for derby clash – Ibrahimovic returns, Pioli’s tactical plans

By Vito Angele -

It’s just one day left until AC Milan and Inter will take on each other in a packed San Siro. The two managers, during the week, shuffled the cards on the table in search of new tactical solutions, looking to gain an advantage.

In this regard, Stefano Pioli tried the 4-2-3-1 formation by putting Jack Bonaventura on the left and Hakan Calhanoglu behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, thus sending Rafael Leao to the bench. This to better face Inter’s midfield, as our reporter Vito Angele states.

As if that wasn’t enough, Conte also tested a new formation in the 3-5-1-1, given the absence of Lautaro Martinez. Christian Eriksen would thus play behind Romelu Lukaku, gaining a numerical superiority in the midfield.

Nonetheless, Milan should still take the field with the 4-4-2 formation. The Ibrahimovic-Leao tandem should continue and any changes would have to happen in-game. The Swede has recovered from his struggles and will be there.

Likely AC Milan XI (4-4-2): Donnarumma; Conti, Musacchio (Kjaer), Romagnoli, Hernandez; Castillejo, Kessie, Bennancer, Calhanoglu; Leao, Ibrahimovic.
