SM: Modesto and Tare among four possible ideas for the post-Maldini era

By Oliver Fisher -

The news of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara’s sackings has rocked the AC Milan world, and now the club must find the best possibility way to move forward.

Maldini and Massara were let go due to a number of differences with owner Gerry Cardinale regarding transfer strategy, autonomy and visions for the future. Now, some possible replacements for the duo have begun to emerge, as our colleagues at SempreMilan.it report.

Idea one: more power for Moncada

The man who in all likelihood will acquire a more important role could be chief scout Geoffrey Moncada, as has been mentioned before by other sources.

While Moncada is a man who prefers to stay away from the cameras and is a private person, he could operate with greater decision-making power in transfer dealings, also dealing independently with the players viewed by his team of scouts.

Idea two: Modesto

On the other hand, an experienced technical director could be brought on board with a strategic idea similar to that dictated by RedBird Capital, and François-Joseph Modesto’s has emerged.

The current technical director of Monza was the architect of the growth of the well-known Greek club Olympiacos. Moncada is the one who further pleads this candidacy, as he greatly appreciates the work of the 44-year-old who is his compatriot.

Idea three: Tare

If the saying ‘nothing happens by chance’ is anything to go by, then the farewell of Maldini and Massara coincides in time with another separation: the one between Igli Tare and Lazio.

The Albanian sporting director will leave the Biancoceleste after 18 years of servance, and his name is being discussed at Casa Milan after having already been linked with the Rossoneri during the post-Leonardo era.

Tare’s arrival could have its advantages given he knows the league well and he has worked with Stefano Pioli too, while it could provide a preferential path to get targets like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Idea four: Modesto and Tare together

Another possible scenario would be the arrival of both Modesto (technical director) and Tare (sporting director). In this case Moncada would remain in his current role as chief scout, leaving the task of designing the future Rossoneri transfer campaign.

    1. You crazy boy. If everyone on Earth is working something, and have direction from bigger management’s what to do, and if anyone like Maldini do the opposite of what he was told, than logical result is sacking.

        1. Had Cardinale been willing to spend all this time?
Nonsense, he only wants money from Milan with a trademark. Damn it

  1. Maldini in his few years has delivered a scudetto a ucl semi final, and constant qualification for ucl, built a stronger team with bright stars than lazio, how is tare better, I dont understand, maybe I dont know the achievements of lazio in the past 10years when tare was in charge

  2. What the hell happened?
You take one day off from Milan News and all hell breaks lose.
Wow. Pazza Milan in full effect .
I expected one of Maldini, Massara and Pioli to be fired because someone had to pay the price for the bad season and my bet was on Massara but didn’t expect Maldini to be fired as well.
    Damn.
    Who is this Modesto guy?
Give me Tare with Moncada, especially if he is bringing SMS with him. Tare is way more experienced and he is used to working with tight budget working for Lotito but still finding gems.
Still the timing of this firing couldn’t be worse. If they wanted to fire him, they should have done it during the season so they could have a SD lined up who can start working on the transfer market. But I guess with Moncada still there things will go smoother.

    1. Bad season? M/M had almost no budget. Other top clubs would give them like 100-150 mil.
With almost bo budget 4th place + UCL semi final is pretty good for me

Maldini asked for a bigger budget –> got fired..

      1. You Totally Right ,TRAITOR . Think it, after 11 years Milan got League Title , and Played Semi Final of CHAMPIONS LEAGUE since 2007 under the Management of MALDINI & MASARA !!!!!!
Now after the change of ownership What is going on over AC MILAN ?!!!!😌

  3. Just give Moncada the job. Not happy with what has happened at all, at least keep the legend at the club. This is damaging to squad morale.

  4. It’s not so much about the sacking but they way they handled the sacking that was shocking to me.
If this was the plan all along they could have let the fans say goodbye to M&M properly during zlatan’s farewell at least it would take the bitter taste off fans lips.
As much as i also questioning maldini’s transfers strategy, especially last season, they don’t deserve to be treated this way.
Milan owes Maldini for their resurgence, he is a symbol on and off the pitch.
Milan management now need to do damage control, to calm the players and the fans down.
The water is under the bridge now, we as fans can only hope for the best for whoever replace M&M can do a better job.

    1. Bingo! Exactly this. Maldini is no it perfect but you can tell his impact. Perhaps he needed someone with more experience by his side but you could tell he was getting better at it and being more risky. Remember he asked for Botman and was spot on. Unfortunately he got his third choice CDK which still TBD. The way they sacked him left a bad taste for what he represents and even if he wasn’t Maldini it still would have looked bad considering a UCL semi with THAT squad..come on now

  5. seeing some comments and start laughing, why would someone compare Milan transfer to Lazio, their financial muscle is incomparable. if truly guardiola, Mourinho, ancelotti, klopp, and the likes are good they should sign for mid table team and see if they will make champions league qualification in a decade. you can only compare teams with equal level, and to me not team have equal level is either one is higher or lower than you. tare signed SMS, immobile, balde diao, Filip Anderson, biglia at his prime, hernanes, he signed acerbi from Milan and turned to beast to mention few.
I’m not comparing Galliani failed to sign tevez, dzeco, renew pirlo, and the worst transfer in Milan history MATRI so should I said tare, maldini better than Galliani or paraticci for the fraud at Juventus.
cardinale owns his money let him use it the way he want although I’m sad for after the news but live goes on

  6. Tare will NOT be an upgrade, at all. His successes in his entire career are just two SMS and Luis Alberto. Everything else is drop dead average. Most signings are directly handled by Lotito himself. Tare was just tasked with things Lotito deemed mostly unimportant for himself to get involved.

Modesto, I don’t know much about him. But Monza’s success is 100% credited to Palladino, not the SD. It’s how berlusconi works. He picks new coaches and bets on them. With Palladion he has hit the jackpot!

Moncada should be the one leading the charge.

    meanwhile.. F* Cardinale.

  8. Whoever is there I’ll support ofc as a fan. But the way they dismissed the guys are terrible and doesn’t look good if you’re a true fan of the club.

  9. For those with smart ass comments and questioning Tare they need to look at the very long list of players he has signed either free or very low fees to realize not only he is an upgrade but suits perfect the redbord philosophy as well. Once you see the list you will realize he is one of the best in the world. Sure he had 10% flops but the reminder were all great transfers. Working for Milan gives him a bigger name and opportunity to convince players. Unlike Maldini he keeps low profile and does his job aligned with owners vision. I can only hope this materializes.

  10. Moncada is deserved to replace Massara. He already proved it with many good signing & bring very good profits.

So ACM will need the a new Chief Scout
