Soccernet: Chukwueze could leave Milan in January – Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid keen

Samuel Chukwueze could leave AC Milan as early as the January transfer window with interest mounting from a number of European clubs, a report claims.

Chukwueze had a great preseason under new head coach Paulo Fonseca but he has once again fallen victim to the same situation he did last season: Christian Pulisic is in red hot form and that makes him undroppable at present.

Soccernet.ng are reporting that Chukwueze ‘could be on his way out of Milan’ with Atletico Madrid keen on bringing him back to LaLiga. Premier League sides West Ham United and Aston Villa are also keen on him and are aware that he is not getting the playing time that he would like.

The 25-year-old winger joined Milan from Villarreal last year for a fee of around €20m, signing a contract running until June 2028, but he ‘could be eyeing a fresh start sooner rather than later’ because he has played just 148 minutes this season.

Speaking about Chukwueze’s struggles, Fonseca offered some insight during a press conference in view of the Lecce game.

“He had a very good pre-season when he had space against big teams. When we arrived here, against Torino and Lazio, I think Chukwueze was not as good as in the pre-season,” he said.

“It’s not a problem of quality but of confidence. He needs to gain confidence and play in this context: in Serie A he has no space, he has to make movements at the right time.”

As per the report, Chukwueze’s market value is ‘currently estimated at €20m’ which is around what the Rossoneri paid.

  1. Never thought much of him. Was a pigheaded purchase. Could’ve gotta a cheaper rw from serie all 2 happy to be a sub for pulisic and use the bulk of the money on a rb or dm.
But nah. Moncada and his masterstrokes, bringing 2 foreign rw in the club at the same time. And 6 other foreigners.

  2. I don’t really believe that for a minute, he might be on some teams’ long-lists but probably so is any other winger with a value 10-20M and a possibility of loan minutes.

At the moment he’s important for our squad in what’s going to be a busy few months and if he clicks he’ll be able to get a good run.

  3. Finally there’s a chance he can leave, we have so many players that need to leave right now who are just holding us back. I think we should get zhegrova or skov Olsen who we have been linked with in the past

  4. I can’t say that Chuk’s Milan tenure was successful. He had a few good games but in most games, failed to make an impact. With Puli’s outstanding form, Chuk being his deputy results in a very substantial drop in quality when Puli needs to rest.

So, yes, if Chuk is sold, that’s fine, as long as we then get a better RW deputy.

Do know, however, that for all these mercato target reports, the overwhelming majority of then are just some journalist trying to get clicks or to sell print copies. Until we hear from actual club officials, these things are more fantasy than anything.

So, look at the country code of the website that reported it. Here we have some guy from Nigeria saying so; pretending to know what two British clubs and what a Spanish club are thinking. Yeah, sure (insert rolling eyes here).

  5. I don’t have a bad opinion of him but if they could get closer to that 20 million for him i think he should be released! Unless there are major injury problems I’m not sure how much time he can get in the starting eleven this season. While his name still means something in the Spanish league, it should be used financially.

  6. Please sell Chukwueze in January and Berardi from Sassuolo.

Milan need players who are game changers. Berardi knows Serie A and he would be a great fit for Milan.

Berardi is an Experience player who can add quality to the dressing room and pitch.

Chukwueze doesn’t have what it takes to play in a big club.

    1. There is no doubt that Berardi was a great RW before his serious injury. It remains to be seen if he will recover his form, after the injury. Remember, Chiesa and Bennacer never recovered their previous form, after similar serious injuries.

It’s a bit of a gamble but yes, if a good medical review before confirming the transfer suggests that things are fine, then absolutely, I’d love to see Berardi wearing a Milan jersey.

  7. From what I remember he cost almost 30 with bonus etc

While he still has a good name, sell

Hes not even a good backup, id rather see youth players or Okafor.

  8. For Serie A is simply not his league. There is no doubt of his talent when you see his performances for Villa and even with us when playing in Europe. I believe that he just doesn’t fit the low block style of play and it’s a shame because I truly believe he’s a good player

  9. He is too small, too one footed and holds on to the ball too much. If they can get back what they paid for him, they should sell him.
To be fair to Chukwueze, we haven’t really seen much of him because of how good Pulisic has been since they were both signed. Pulisic arrived at the beginning of pre season last year, took the starting RW spot and never surrendered it. Chuk came in late in the window and was always behind. Never got any consistent playing time.
As his replacement I actually like Jimenez. He is more of a winger than a fullback. That kid can’t defend his lunch, but he has so much attacking talent. Fonseca mostly used him as a winger in pre season. Give him a chance.

    1. Very good point. Jimenez as right winger could work. The problem then is, I was hoping that maybe he would improve our right back problem. I’ve seen him as left back and he couldn’t defend well, but I heard that he is a better right back than a left back; maybe he is able to defend better from the right; it could be a question of dominant body side or something. What do you say? Have you watched Jimenez play as right back? Is he any better at defending there?

  10. Can we now just call a truce? Don’t bring up Maldini buying Origi, the free flop on relatively big wages, and in return ppl won’t have to bring up Chukwueze and Musah the 50m+ flops ? 😂😂😂

All jokes aside I guess this is why u buy subs who don’t mind being subs or the price justifies it….Jovic and Okafor fall beautifully in this category. Messias wasn’t fussing either and Saladman was turning a page but nah we hadda buy two high priced RWs in the same window.
