Soccernet: Chukwueze could leave Milan in January – Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid keen

Samuel Chukwueze could leave AC Milan as early as the January transfer window with interest mounting from a number of European clubs, a report claims.

Chukwueze had a great preseason under new head coach Paulo Fonseca but he has once again fallen victim to the same situation he did last season: Christian Pulisic is in red hot form and that makes him undroppable at present.

Soccernet.ng are reporting that Chukwueze ‘could be on his way out of Milan’ with Atletico Madrid keen on bringing him back to LaLiga. Premier League sides West Ham United and Aston Villa are also keen on him and are aware that he is not getting the playing time that he would like.

The 25-year-old winger joined Milan from Villarreal last year for a fee of around €20m, signing a contract running until June 2028, but he ‘could be eyeing a fresh start sooner rather than later’ because he has played just 148 minutes this season.

Speaking about Chukwueze’s struggles, Fonseca offered some insight during a press conference in view of the Lecce game.

“He had a very good pre-season when he had space against big teams. When we arrived here, against Torino and Lazio, I think Chukwueze was not as good as in the pre-season,” he said.

“It’s not a problem of quality but of confidence. He needs to gain confidence and play in this context: in Serie A he has no space, he has to make movements at the right time.”

As per the report, Chukwueze’s market value is ‘currently estimated at €20m’ which is around what the Rossoneri paid.

  1. Never thought much of him. Was a pigheaded purchase. Could’ve gotta a cheaper rw from serie all 2 happy to be a sub for pulisic and use the bulk of the money on a rb or dm.
But nah. Moncada and his masterstrokes, bringing 2 foreign rw in the club at the same time. And 6 other foreigners.

      1. Yes because chuku is an invaluable player in ac milan squad. We need to keep him by any means necessary.

I’ve plenty of brain don’t you worry little girl. You won’t remember this exchange anyway

        1. Lol you live in a make believe world. But it’s okay. if it were up to you, Milan would be an all Italian team and as we’ve seen, the italian National team is awful lol

You make up exchanges in your head. You’re a joke

          1. Everyone lives in a make believe world.
If it was up to me I’d put the old 3 foreigners per team rule on again. Not because I’m racist or anything but because it would be very interesting when good players wouldn’t migrate like them useless refugees do.
Atm serie a has more foreign players than Italian. 65.7%. That that for an upopular opinion. M0r0n

  2. I don’t really believe that for a minute, he might be on some teams’ long-lists but probably so is any other winger with a value 10-20M and a possibility of loan minutes.

At the moment he’s important for our squad in what’s going to be a busy few months and if he clicks he’ll be able to get a good run.

    1. He has had more than enough chances to prove that he clicks. Fact is he does not click and never will. I know if he keeps trying he might eventually click, but how long is it going to take? It is not fair for Salads who defends much better than him and gives a lot of efforts going forward. Chuk is just a one-dimensional RW who is neutralized once he gets figured out.

      1. Aye, but we don’t have Alexis back until next year, so Chukwueze definitely has a part to play for us until summer, most likely. If there is a good offer in January, fair enough – I think he’s a good player with potential but will he fit into what Fonseca is doing? If he leaves, we’ll need a loan in or someone to replace him though; he’s not currently expendable is my point.

  3. Finally there’s a chance he can leave, we have so many players that need to leave right now who are just holding us back. I think we should get zhegrova or skov Olsen who we have been linked with in the past

  4. I can’t say that Chuk’s Milan tenure was successful. He had a few good games but in most games, failed to make an impact. With Puli’s outstanding form, Chuk being his deputy results in a very substantial drop in quality when Puli needs to rest.

So, yes, if Chuk is sold, that’s fine, as long as we then get a better RW deputy.

Do know, however, that for all these mercato target reports, the overwhelming majority of then are just some journalist trying to get clicks or to sell print copies. Until we hear from actual club officials, these things are more fantasy than anything.

So, look at the country code of the website that reported it. Here we have some guy from Nigeria saying so; pretending to know what two British clubs and what a Spanish club are thinking. Yeah, sure (insert rolling eyes here).

  5. I don’t have a bad opinion of him but if they could get closer to that 20 million for him i think he should be released! Unless there are major injury problems I’m not sure how much time he can get in the starting eleven this season. While his name still means something in the Spanish league, it should be used financially.

  6. Please sell Chukwueze in January and Berardi from Sassuolo.

Milan need players who are game changers. Berardi knows Serie A and he would be a great fit for Milan.

Berardi is an Experience player who can add quality to the dressing room and pitch.

Chukwueze doesn’t have what it takes to play in a big club.

    1. There is no doubt that Berardi was a great RW before his serious injury. It remains to be seen if he will recover his form, after the injury. Remember, Chiesa and Bennacer never recovered their previous form, after similar serious injuries.

It’s a bit of a gamble but yes, if a good medical review before confirming the transfer suggests that things are fine, then absolutely, I’d love to see Berardi wearing a Milan jersey.

      1. Chiesa let’s see if he finds form at Liverpool, if so would be a crying shame we never went for him at only 12mn

Chukwueze I reckon we keep until the summer. It’s a long season no doubt Captain America even if he avoids injury will need some rest.

+1 on the Berardi shout but not sure management will go for a Serie A winger his age, it seems striker is the only position they’ll consider 30+

        1. Chiesa transfer is not just about Transfer Fee but his salary, who would paid him as much as Leao (if he agreed) just to be a backup or rotation for Pulisic

      1. I like Orsolini as well, but not sure why people think someone who is a starter at their current club and pushing for national team caps would be willing to move to another club to sit on the bench, even if it’s a bigger club. He’s in his prime and if I were him I’d only move if I was being considered the starter.

    2. So I understand correctly…

You want to replace a 25yo without a consistent run with an overpriced 30yo coming off an Achilles tear???

      Do I have that right?

  7. From what I remember he cost almost 30 with bonus etc

While he still has a good name, sell

Hes not even a good backup, id rather see youth players or Okafor.

  8. For Serie A is simply not his league. There is no doubt of his talent when you see his performances for Villa and even with us when playing in Europe. I believe that he just doesn’t fit the low block style of play and it’s a shame because I truly believe he’s a good player

  9. He is too small, too one footed and holds on to the ball too much. If they can get back what they paid for him, they should sell him.
To be fair to Chukwueze, we haven’t really seen much of him because of how good Pulisic has been since they were both signed. Pulisic arrived at the beginning of pre season last year, took the starting RW spot and never surrendered it. Chuk came in late in the window and was always behind. Never got any consistent playing time.
As his replacement I actually like Jimenez. He is more of a winger than a fullback. That kid can’t defend his lunch, but he has so much attacking talent. Fonseca mostly used him as a winger in pre season. Give him a chance.

    1. Very good point. Jimenez as right winger could work. The problem then is, I was hoping that maybe he would improve our right back problem. I’ve seen him as left back and he couldn’t defend well, but I heard that he is a better right back than a left back; maybe he is able to defend better from the right; it could be a question of dominant body side or something. What do you say? Have you watched Jimenez play as right back? Is he any better at defending there?

      1. He can’t defend. Doesn’t matter the side.
He might be great as a wing back, where he will be the help defender and the one that comes to double up like Saelemaekers did playing with Calabria behind him, but he can’t be the primary defender vs a winger. He could play the Saelemaekers role as a back up, just with more speed and skill.

      2. Honestly if the club can sell him in January then it’s a good move , he is a one trick pony and honestly right now we need another powerful winger, the best thing to do is sell him and get Johnathan David, he is amazing, and is very marketable, we would have a formidable attack, if we get David then Pulisic can be moved to the attacking midfield position, that way we could also use him on the right anytime Leao is out of form, Chukwueze was a mistake, then we could place Bennacer,Calabria, and Florenzi to get Ricci, we then get a young defender from our youth side to replace Calabria, so that we enhance our homegrown quota..

  10. Can we now just call a truce? Don’t bring up Maldini buying Origi, the free flop on relatively big wages, and in return ppl won’t have to bring up Chukwueze and Musah the 50m+ flops ? 😂😂😂

All jokes aside I guess this is why u buy subs who don’t mind being subs or the price justifies it….Jovic and Okafor fall beautifully in this category. Messias wasn’t fussing either and Saladman was turning a page but nah we hadda buy two high priced RWs in the same window.

    1. I think the idea (at least according to some social medias) was that Chukwueze was supposed to be the starting right winger and that Pulisic was going to be deputy in either wing or even as an attacking midfielder. In summer 2023 there was a lot of hype around Chukwueze whose highlights made him look like we’re getting a RW Leao.
Needless to say, it was a complete failure.

      1. Seems like Geoffrey was playing FIFA 22 again. I swear all their picks were special cards from that game. Well if Chuk was supposed to be RW then and Puli the CAM then what was RLC supposed to be ? DM/pivot? The whole thing is just disjointed.

I actually think in Spain there might be a market for him. Serie A is wayy to tactical.

  11. No point to sell Chukwueze below 40 million. Because he is in the team for second year, plus his amortised value is going down. Without good capital gain, Milan would just lose money because can’t bring better replacement for lower money.

  12. This fan base on this site is insane. Every article the fans want to sell every milan player linked away from the club. If the fans can get there way they would sell leao, theo, calabria, chukweze.

Iv seen the milan fans under the same type of article but for magnian and they said sell if he asks for too much.

We would play with 8 men if the fans had a say. They are obsessed with selling.

    1. Lol MH would be proud of you. I don’t think fans want each player sold. It’s just that if you buy poorly then there’ll be a desire to want to move players on. Some would prefer to keep a core stable but seems for the last two years we’ve been dismantling.
Also if a player is asking for too high a wage do u sell him or run out the contract? Do the player make the difference between a trophy or not? Those are the fundamental questions needed to be asked first

  13. The issue is, if God forbid Chris sustains an injury, who plays Rt. WIng?

Yea Chuk isn’t in prime form but do we have a dependable backup? Might be short-sided letting him go unless there’s a plan B not named Jimenez.

  14. I am sad he isn’t working out. When he plays in Europe or even the friendlies where he has more space he is starting material. But that makes him useful for 20% of the games. Probably needs to be sold, and I don’t doubt that he can be successful somewhere else. Hopefully between Jimenez and Liberali can take that sub spot.

Also people saying we over paid for Chuk: Given his form the season before, and the fact that it was the last year of his contract: he was a great deal at that price. Now players can work and not work out – from Edgar Davids, Patrick Vieira, Kluivert or Rivaldo – plenty of great, great players haven’t made it here. Not saying Chuk is nearly that, but he doesn’t deserve the couch potato fan with two left legs judging away as he gulps his Sprite.

    1. Nah we was overpayed. Nothing great about pay 20-25M for a random winger on his last year of contract. Nothing great about his last season at villareal either. He scored 13 goals sure but half of them were against low tier opponents in coppa and conference league. Hajduk, Poznan, beer sheva.

Nobody deserves to be judged by coach potatoes, but reality is Internet has given us potatoes a voice and we use a lot. And nothing can stop us.

    2. “..and the fact that it was the last year of his contract: he was a great deal at that price. ”
You’re joking right? In which world is 28m for a player in his last year of contract ever a good deal if not a clearly high caliber name like MBappe or Ronaldo or something. We’ve been overpaying the past few years for players on final year of contract and someone needs to be held accountable.

  15. Sometimes coming here to read comments as a Nigerian can really be toxic. Chukwueze is an amazing player and he is really good. Players need time and confidence. He is a very useful player.

I don’t know if it’s Milan’s fan base or it’s just people who come to Supremilan to pass comments but mehn! You guys are mean!

    1. I like Chuk but he is even bench material for his national team now. Happy to keep him as a sub here unless a better player shows up — probably the usual strategy of finding a Chelsea reject might do the trick again. His playing style does him no favors in Serie A.

    2. Take the green and white coloured glasses off for a second and realize he’s an expensive bench option, objectively.
His final year at Villarreal he had an ok/decent year with 11 goal contributions. Prior to that he never had more than 6 goal contributions (goals +assists) and he’s a winger, and never more than 3 assists
.. as a WINGER! That’s just plain facts, no hate, no toxicity. And we paid $28m for that. So do u understand the angst?

    3. If that is what an amazing player can do idk what else to say.
If lord chuku is amazing then lord pulisic is a titan of the game…

      Mean, a? Don’t cry 2 much.

  16. If Chukwueze is sold in January, perhaps we should consider purchasing Riccardo Orsolini ? He is not too valuable (16M€ according to transfermarkt), he is italian so less issues with the UEFA lists, he knows the serie A very well and considering the minutes he played last seasons, he is scoring on a pretty regular basis.
Last season he played around 1800 minutes, so I think he wouldn’t mind not being a starter and yet he scored 10 goals from the right wing.

  17. He is a good winger, but his issue is Serie A. Before talking nonsense, not every player can adopt in Serie A! You had Paqueta as the same example and so on and so on. I would sell Okafor, Chuku, Thiaw, Tomori, Loftus, and get for that money get new players that suit the tactics of Fonseca, that would be the best way possible to get on another lvl.

      1. Just because city were willing to pay 100mill for him does not make him a 100mill player, he can ball but only English teams are dumb enough to pay that for him facts

    1. Paqueta was benched for snake hakan. Paqueta was 21 or 22 at the time with zero eu experience. Chuku been in Spain for 5 years prior to his move here. And ok he doesn’t get a lot of game time. Neither does okafor yet he manages to make an impact… and you’d sell him. Genius this one

  18. If he could just relax, I think he could be of real value to the team. His ceiling is much higher than Messias and Samu, he just needs to adjust and he got almost no playing time last year. He needs to be able to play with the starters and learn from Morata. If we get rid of him in January with no replacement, it’d be a huge risk just to break even on his cost. Do they really think another 4 months would cause him to depreciate that much? Guess so…

  19. Very unlikely. He is a great back up to Pulisic.

It would be foolish to think that Pulisic can play all games in the season without any rotation.

Besides, the amount of disrespect that Chukwueze gets is shortsighted.

Pulisic is on red hot form, so the coach puts Chuk on when the game is sundowning.

He has created chances that haven’t been taken. And he had a great pre-season meaning that if there are any issues, they are mentality based.

He is still a good finisher of the ball, a good dribbler, and has top pace.

    Everyone needs to chill.

  20. soccernet Nigeria doesn’t count, it’s not a credible source, nor are a big club likely to come in for him. Chances are they’ll try to move him on at the end of the season. He shouldn’t have been signed in the first place. Moncada out.

    1. I agree, but if you have a good replacement lined up for him, I would prefer to move him on. I don’t think he is a player suited to Serie A; he would shine in Ligue 1.

  21. The Leao of the right wing. The most expensice transfer of last summer.

Another Moncada masterpiece. He’s pilling more failures than sucesses with his recruitments and wasted more money than Mirabelli by now.

    1. I wouldn’t go that far, he’s had an equal number of hits and misses I think, but his racist anti-Italian policy is hopefully going to be the end for him.

  22. It always looks to me like he doesn’t know what is expected of him. We wanders into the midfield and generally confuses the pattern of play, when I’d rather see him hug the right touchline and stay there. From there he is always an outlet and can use his pace to best effect. This may be the solution to his confidence and if we don’t find the key soon, his time will be up.

  23. Certain traits in a player can be improved, others not.

Chucky can’t use his right foot and that is not going to improve at his age, that should have been sorted as a teenager.

Leao can improve his finishing and needs to

  24. A lot of you do not realize that the game against Inter how much Noah wasted two good chances created by Chukwueze. You also do not realize that he is often not given the ball when he is open, he often receives the ball when he is marked by two players. Yes, Serie A doesn’t give you space to dribble, which is why the Coach has to find a way to make him work.

Chukwueze on a good day will win us matches but there are too many disrespect from a lot of Italians who support AC Milan, a lot of you guys cry too much and you want to buy only players who are Italians. Serie A didn’t become great by playing only Italians!

    1. You type nonsense. Which league became great by playing only its national players??

It’s a freaking Italian club playing in Italy, of course it would want more Italian players. And chukwueze has been a bust accept it or do the same thing you accuse fans of doing here. CRY ABOUT IT.

Chukwueze has been a flop accept it or not.

    2. And another of your nonsense write up. Is Serie A suppose to give you space to dribble, do Messi, Palmer, Ronaldo, Pulisic whine about lack of dribbling space. What sort of useless defense is this.
Omo some naija fans dey dissapoint ooo🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😒🙄
