Soccernet: Milan weighing up new move for Nigerian forward after failed 2023 attempt

By Oliver Fisher -

Reports have begun circulating suggesting that Victor Boniface is a target for AC Milan once again, and now a source in his home country have confirmed the news.

Three days ago, Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Milan have Boniface on their list of targets for the centre-forward role, adding that an investment of €45-50m is budgeted for that particular reinforcement.

According to Soccernet in Nigeria, Milan are ‘set to lock horns with several other clubs’ over Boniface, who has been a key part of a Bayer Leverkusen side that have been simply outstanding this season so far.

Boniface joined Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise for a fee in the region of €20m last summer, with the Bundesliga side beating Milan to his signature, and he has 16 goals (plus eight assists) across all competitions in 2023-24.

The report adds that Juventus are monitoring Boniface’s situation and could try for him if Dusan Vlahovic leaves in the summer, but Milan’s interest has very much remained after last summer’s failure to land him.

Milan’s main target is Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee, as per Soccernet, but they are looking for €75m to sell which could force the management to look for a more cost-effective option.

    1. Not that far fetched given the Hojlund transfer (a player who did less) and a qualification for the CL. If Bologna make it into the CL, they won’t have to sell at all but for an offer they can’t refuse, such as 75MM.

      1. I’m not super sure, but someone reported Bayern has a 40M buy back clause. If that’s true then there’s a limit to how much Bologna can demand.
If they ask too much then it will make sense to go through Bayern. You’d probably also have to sweeten the deal for Zirkzee and/or his agent to get on board, so I’d say 50-55M is max that Bologna can ask for.

      2. This is a hugely flawed argument, imo. The Hoijlund price is only a barometer if an EPL team actually comes in for Zirkzee; everyone knows they overpay and the selling clubs therefore charge them more. If there’s no concrete Prem interest to inflate the price tag, they’ll never get €75m unless he agrees to go to the Saudi league.

      1. Different player.. Hojlund is younger, tall and strong, but also fast and direct. He has the potential to be a perfect no.9.

But it’s not completely out of the picture, but I’d imagine Zirkzee will go for under 60m max. And that’s still a bit too expensive Imo.

        1. Indeed, Hojlund has the technical potential to become the next Lewandowski. He and Zirkzee are two different profiles.

          1. He won’t be anywhere near Lewa. Lewa has techniques, finishing, vision, and movements on top of physical attributes. The kid only has physical attributes. He will be better and a good striker, but won’t win anything considering he is playing in MU

        1. Considering how the Premier League is handing down point deductions and could relegate certain teams, I don’t think many of them would spend that now. They say Manchester City could be next.

          1. City won’t get more than a slap on the wrist. If they investigate City then many are implicated, the house of cards falls. Newcastle could spend that, Ashley left them in the black and they are in a good shape.

He says he wants to say in Italy but we’ll see how much the lure of the prem cash is

    2. No , Bayern have buyback clause 40m euro also 40% resale value. Most likely JZ max price just 50m euro . If bologna put 75m euro price tag . Other club just negotiate with Bayern

  1. I’d really like to have Guirassy, Victor or Jonathan. Zirkzee for me is not a striker, he is a winger. I’d take CDK back lieu him and train him to be more of a striker…. For 75m, he is overrated and overpriced!

    1. Definitely bro. Gasperini put CdK into 2nd striker or winger striker with 3421 formation. The rest is he exploded already

    2. Yeah, Zirkzee is suitable as a second striker or winger, but somehow some at Milan imagine he is suitable to replace Giroud.

  2. Boniface or jesse ngankam from bundesliga. Pure striker that milan needed if giroud go to LA. Beside colombo the 3rd option.

  3. We should just pay the release clause for Sesko and be done with it. Perfect replacement for Giroud and with a much higher ceiling

    1. Yeah pay 40m€ or 50m€ for him. Or just buy Icardi, don’t need mumbo jumbo signing and salary negotiation and another entourage fee obstacle like previous season.

      1. Icardi? Lmao… that’s the worst piece of advice I’ve seen on here today. And as if he wouldn’t demand a big salary.

        1. It’s just sarcasm if they can’t sign any world class striker in the end of summer market. Like Jovic before, bc of long process like we know it.

  4. If he is 75, I’d go for Zesko or the Lille striker. The are other area we should save our budget too. David will probably coming for 30 m max as his contract is running out in 1 year. If anything go wrong with him, Milan could sell him and reinvest the year later.
Zesko has 50 m release clause and also has the same characteristics, give or take.
75 m for a season wonder is too risky for our current financial condition.

    1. Sesko has the technical qualities to become a top number 9. He is still rather raw, but the potential is big and he has a very good experience for a 20 years old: both in club career and the Slovenia national team.
