Spalletti sour after defeat: “Milan’s is not a penalty, Napoli’s is very clear”

By Oliver Fisher -

Napoli head coach Luciano Spalletti was not happy with some of Orsato’s decision making during AC Milan’s 1-0 win over his side last night.

Milan had appeals for a penalty waived off by Daniele Orsato after Ismael Bennacer and Kalidou Koulibaly clashed after five minutes, ultimately resulting in a booking for Stefano Pioli. The replays seem to suggest there was contact from the centre-back and he certainly impeded the Algerian getting to the ball.

Napoli then had an appeal of their own ignored after 13 minutes, with the hosts finding Victor Osimhen on the byline and he made a cut to goal before going down with Fikayo Tomori nearby, though there is yet to be a conclusive angle on whether there was contact.

Spalletti spoke to the reporters who gathered for his post-match press conference to reflect on what may prove to be a damaging result for his side, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“Sorry about the result. Double sorry for not giving this joy to our fans. Sometimes we do things well, sometimes worse. There are some things that we could have done better, at long stretches we did well,” he said.

“We conceded a goal in the scrum we could have not conceded, but it was the moment when we did less well than the rest of the game and they got the advantage.”

Were you too light?

“If we don’t bring our characteristics to the game we struggle. The first half hour we did very well, we weren’t bad in the situations we had prepared. We didn’t give much following some actions in the final part of the game.”

Are there any difficulties in playing at the Stadio Maradona?

“It’s just a coincidence…”

On the refereeing incidents…

“AC Milan’s is not a penalty, Napoli’s is very clear. Then we don’t get in trouble and they do…”

  1. Hey Spaletti, what about Kessie goal in the first leg which Milan deserved that goal? You didn’t talk about that huh?

And Tomori didn’t made a foul against Osimhen. But Koulybaly clearly did to Bennacer which should be a penalty. What’s more “lucky” about Koulybaly didn’t received a straight red card after his nasty foul that made Giroud leg bleeding! 😡

Now take your L and shut up. Milan deserve this win!

  2. Kudos guyz. This team spirit is what we need for the next 10 games and the scudeto will be ours. Great performance last night.
Don’t drop the standard against the mid-table and the bottom clubs. Dropping points against these sides have cost us alot.
