Spalletti insists that Milan are a ‘top club, who are not out of the Scudetto race’

Although AC Milan has an eight-point gap to eradicate before truly showing they are contenders for the Scudetto they have the quality and class to claw back the deficit.

The Rossoneri were deemed strong candidates for the Scudetto ahead of the 2023-24 season. However, their early showings have been poor on the front of challenging for the title.

Azzurri boss Luciano Spalletti – who drove Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years – was interviewed by Corriere dello Sport, and his comments were relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“[It is] Too early to talk about the Scudetto – it is not over yet. Milan are still in it,” he said.

“First of all, it will be the turn of Milan-Fiorentina, with the Diavolo in full emergency called upon to regain altitude. Then it will be the turn of Atalanta-Napoli and Juventus-Inter.

“I have seen the quality of the players and coach they have. They are a top club and can still win the Scudetto.”

Milan’s gap between them and the two tearaway leaders – Inter and Juventus – could be narrowed to six points, should results go their way this weekend.

In an ideal world for the Diavolo, a victory against Fiorentina on Saturday would put them in good stead. Though they are relying on Juventus either drawing with Inter or beating them.

In the case of results going this way, Milan would be on 26 points. In the case of a draw, Inter would still lead with 32 points. Whereas, if the Old Lady are victorious, they would also reach 32 points.
