Spanish journalist claims Real Madrid loanee is ‘very happy’ at Milan and could stay another year

Brahim Diaz is happy at AC Milan and wants to make the most of his ‘spectacular opportunity’, according to one journalist.

The 21-year-old playmaker arrived at Milan last summer on a season-long loan from Real Madrid where he was struggling for playing time, and he has been a key part of head coach Stefano Pioli’s plans playing a good number of minutes both in the league and in Europe.

Agustín Martín from the well-known Spanish newspaper AS spoke to MilanNews about Brahim’s loan spell with the Rossoneri so far and what the future might hold for him, as well as the injury he has picked up on international duty.

When asked whether Milan and Real have already talked about the future of the former Manchester City man, Martín revealed that he would not be surprised to see him remain.

“Brahim is a young player who at Real Madrid would not have had the necessary minutes to continue growing. Zidane trusts him, but in the Spanish team Brahim would not have been able to play many games,” he said.

“The almost certain departure of Lucas Vázquez opens up a hole in next season’s squad. But we’ll also have to see what happens at Real in the summer. It wouldn’t surprise me if Brahim stays another season at Milan, but in Madrid for now they don’t want to talk about a permanent transfer, unless they get an interesting offer worth at least 20 million euros.”

Brahim recently got injured while on international duty for Spain’s U21 side in a game against Slovenia.

On the injury, he added: “Brahim suffered a blow in the match against Slovenia with an opposing player. He has a foot injury. It is not a bump or a sprain, but he has severe swelling on the sole of his foot and big toe which prevents him from walking normally. It is to be evaluated.”

On Brahim’s overall experience at Milan, the journalist believes that the player has enjoyed his time so far and the ability to develop by playing more minutes alongside top players.

“For now, what comes to Spain is that the player is very happy. He had minutes he wouldn’t have had at Real Madrid, he scored goals, he made assists. He sees the experience of playing for one of the greatest Italian teams like a spectacular opportunity. And then he is playing alongside great players like Ibrahimovic, Theo Hernández, Çalhanoglu, Tonali. This is very important for him.”
