Sport: Barcelona dealt blow in pursuit of Milan star – “I can’t leave them”

By Oliver Fisher -

Rafael Leao was on Barcelona’s list of targets heading into the summer transfer window but he appears to have ruled out leaving AC Milan, a report claims.

As Sport report, Leao is one of the most coveted players in view of the summer window as he continues to show himself to be among the best wingers in Europe, even if he did renew his deal until 2028 last year.

PSG have been mentioned as suitors for Leao given that Kylian Mbappe looks set to leave for Real Madrid, but Barcelona are also keen on him because they might have to revamp the attack given Robert Lewandowski is expected to leave at the end of the current campaign.

However, it is not just Barca’s financial problems that are an obstacle to a potential move for Leao. The winger himself seemed to publicly declare that he has no intentions of changing clubs any time soon.

“At Milan they helped me grow as a man and as a player. I can’t leave them. My future is in Milan. My education is based on loyalty,” he said at the presentation of his book ‘Smile’.

Leao has nine goals and eight assists in 32 appearances across all competitions this season so far, ending a five-month league goal drought on Sunday with a screamer against Atalanta.

  1. Great respect for Rafa. Until this day, he has also shown genuine love for the Rossoneri colors. Many players his age just run for the highest paycheck. So far, in both words and deeds, he has always been loyal to Milan.
