Sportiello sustains calf problem with Mirante in line to start vs. Juventus

There is more bad news on the injury front for AC Milan as they are set to be without Marco Sportiello for the game against Juventus, it is claimed.

It was already known that Mike Maignan will be forced to miss the game against Juventus on Sunday night after he was given a straight red card during the win over Genoa before the international break, with Sportiello in line to take his spot.

As reported by Manuele Baiocchini on Sky (via MilanNews), Sportiello has sustained a muscle problem and will almost certainly be out for the match against Max Allegri’s side at the weekend.

If he were to miss the game, then the responsibility will pass to Antonio Mirante to start between the posts for what would be his first action of the season.

Update: The club have confirmed that Sportiello has suffered a strain of the medial twin muscle of his left calf. The goalkeeper will have to observe a period of ten days of rest after which the evolution of his condition will be evaluated with a new MRI.
