SportItalia: Milan in new talks with Chelsea over midfielder Loftus-Cheek

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have opened new talks with Chelsea over Ruben Loftus-Cheek after initially abandoning the pursuit. The sale of Sandro Tonali is behind the newfound interest, a report claims.

Paolo Maldini had been in talks with Chelsea for quite some time about the future of Loftus-Cheek and the Englishman seemed destined to join Milan. Then, Maldini was sacked and the pursuit was abandoned.

That is until now. According to SportItalia, Milan have initiated new talks with Chelsea over the midfielder after the sale of Tonali to Newcastle. The 27-year-old could be one of two midfielders to join the Rossoneri this summer and his price tag is believed to be around €20m.

Milan are indeed in dire need of some reinforcement in midfield as Ismael Bennacer will be sidelined until the end of the year. As things stand, therefore, Rade Krunic and Tommaso Pobega are the starting midfielders and that won’t cut it.

  1. How this players fits in that famous monyball concept is mistery same as Morata. Monyball as I know is based on stastistic parameters. What statistic columns this guys fill, God help us…

        1. Good players with his experience, 150 full games in the PL cost 45 to 60 million, emphasize the good part. Tonali moved for 4x as much, so he is relatively cheap, in every sense of the word. Lazetic cost 4.5 million was barely playing any professional football. That isn’t cheap, it is bottom of the barrel low.

    1. RLC fits the often injured columns. Gerry realized the need to replace injury-prone players at MilanLab

But seriously, this signing just makes me think we’re heading for the Conference League.

  2. Isn’t he same like Pobega? Central and Atacking mid. We already have pleanty of those and zero real DM. This seems like a target just because he is avaliable and not because we really need this type of player. Or maybe they will sell Pobega and this is the replacment, i mean we all know this Milan hates Italians lol.

    1. He’s not like pobega at all . He’s much stronger physically and i would give him a chance if he comes for under 20M Remember that Tomori was warming Chelsea’s bench too .

      1. Pobega is physicly strong too, they are both big guys. The real problem is can he tackle, position him self to cut passes, and just in general have an eye for defending. If he can do that then yea sure i would take him.

      2. Yea, I mean if Milan can sign this one, I think the midfield will be decent especially cause he can bully the opposition and has the height and strength to win aerial balls.

      3. 23 yrold when tomori came 26 and now 27 prolly 28 yrold now sooooooooooo hes trash meite bakayoko 2.0 bro

  3. If Moncada signs RLC then there is literally no reason to have sacked Maldini. We have damaged the integrity and stability of the project for what, to go after the same player that was low down on our priorities?

If we’re happy to go for 27 Yr old warming the Chelsea bench then why the rejection of 28 Yr old Berardi /SMS who at least bring the guarantee of being effective in Serie A with great track records in the league, no language barrier etc.

I’m hoping this is just another media click bait article as otherwise the new management have sunk to a new low, just as I thought we’d already found rock bottom.

    1. If they didn’t sack Maldini, they won’t have the money from selling Tonali so there won’t be money to buy RLC.

It’s just a ridiculous rumour though. The management must be desperate if this is true.

  4. This moneyball theory is an utter falsity. To date, the software has not been created for football. Says as much on billy beans Wikipedia. I think at this point we need some contact/ statement from red bird, because we seem to be running around like headless chickens. It genuinely feels like we’ve gone back 10 years, getting Honda in the team. Who will be our Poli and Montolivo?

  5. I think Gerry wants to be revolutionary and eventually bring some type of draft players to italian football.
For example here in USA , NFL draft can bring you 9 to 12 fresh players without paying astronomical money, His idea won’t work in football.
The only way would be to boost academy and get players from youth free and clear.
He is totally wrong person to own football club as AC MILAN is.

  6. Hahaaha so were back to this trash player? I thought they wanted different ideas than maldini… wow this RedTurd has literally 0 redeemable qualities.

    1. You must be a troll @Zoro caloro I swear. I remember when players were leaving for free. You blame Maldini and Co. The league title and UCL semi final did wonder. You talked a lot of bs about Maldini.

      1. Eddie I have never said Maldini was an amazing sporting director. He was pretty good overall but has his shortcomings. His firing was wrong. Especially how it went down. That said I still blame Paolo and co for this last transfer season. And yes they were awful at not selling players who were obviously going to leave a lot sooner. I’m not sure where I contradicted myself. Seems you just can’t believe people aren’t all one way or the other and can actually have a complex thought.

        1. @zoro Caloro I read a lot of this website article. I remember how critical you were of him and Elliott. Specially the season before the scudetto when we slipped up bad. You have been very vocal about his inability to sell and signing world class. I remember a lot of people who regularly comment on here you are among the top lol.
All I’m saying is moat of those who now praise Maldini were critical of him. I remember also making fun of buying Madrid reject( Theo) and Chelsea (Tomori) . Instead of passing judgment wait until the season start and over because once results starts to come in everyone will almost forget about these moments

  7. Do not forget that Loftus was once Maldini’s choice, and this man is a great player. Technically excellent and physically strong. The English version of Sergei M.S. A lot of players didn’t get a chance at overcrowded clubs like Chelsea. Age is the only minus.

  8. Looking at Pobega & Krunic as things stand. RLC is a welcome addition to fill the Kessie role. Not a lot of targets for us so far. And seeing as how English players do well in Italy, would work hopefully well for us.

  9. Everytime you think it can’t get worse, it gets worse. Anything over 10 mil for him is too much. He’s completely average and injury prone. I think he had one decent season on loan at Fulham and that’s it.

  10. if we can get him for maybe 13-15 mil i wouldnt oppose this deal but if its 20 or more then not so much as we will propably have to scrape by throughout the mercato.

    1. Bad deal i think . No club are willing to pay lord RLC . Chelsea will losing him free transfer next year. Better go buying hjolmund 20m euro or ibrahim sangare 30m euro ,both are good for DMF and strong like kessie

      1. different prices, but as i said if we could attain him for 13-15 mil i could accept it.
the danish player you mention is called hjulmand and hasnt even gotten his international debut at the age of 24 but ive actually mentioned him previously long ago he could be fine but neither cheeks or him really excites me bu tyou never knows and i would say that cheeks could be somewhat good for us if he comes at the right price.
30 mil for a player then ill much rather invest it on a player like sms who acually woud excite me joining us.

        1. We cannot afford SMS . Lotito asking 40m euro for SMS. Lotito are hard to deal . Yes SMS wont need adaptation for pioli tactic due to pioli are the coach launching him in his 1st season in serie A. Hjulmand have same price with RLC but can still grow. I prefer hjulmand and 1 more CmF to replace bennacer ( injured till january) . But if frattesi 40m euro , i prefer go same price to SMS but it is just dream because owner only want young player due to their value can be rising higher

          1. Yeah i have my doubts as well in regard of aquiring sms but that would be a dream transfer of mine at least.
I think hjulmand will be more expenssive than rlc but who knows.

    1. Arnautovic is the only player that we could afford to buy and pay for his wages. That was reason why Maldini was following him.

  11. You guys are hilarious, mock him now only to see him be the best player in your midfield and walk in the team of the season in his debut! You’ll be very thankful after
