There are growing reports suggesting that Youssouf Fofana could be on his way out of AC Milan after just two seasons at the club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport spoke this morning of a ‘revolution in midfield’ at Milan in which players will have to depart in order to make room for new seasons. Along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, it seems as though Fofana is one of the prime candidates.

Enquiries from England

Indeed, the paper confirm that Milan will part with both the Frenchman and the Englishman if they receive suitable offers, especially given the latter’s contract expires in 2027. Fofana was approached in January by Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, but he isn’t interested in a move to Turkey.

Instead, his mind is more on the ‘offers already received’ by his entourage from Tottenham (if they avoid relegation from the Premier League) and Aston Villa. Fofana cost €25m to sign from Monaco in 2024, including bonuses.

La Gazzetta state that the Rossoneri don’t believe his value has diminished given his performances, and he has been important to Massimiliano Allegri this season as the right-sided mezzala. On the contrary, it is suggested that he could command more than the price paid.

Who could arrive to replace him? There has already been talk about Leon Goretzka, Ismael Kone and most recently Javi Guerra coming in to fill the void on the right side.

  1. Fofana isn’t bad but we do need a better midfielder since Allegri isn’t going to bench Rabiot or Modric (if he stays) anytime soon.

    1. It’s very unlikely Modric can play two games a week so we also have to consider what the midfield looks like without him next year (in a twisted way, it’s a blessing we get a 4-game look at that now). When he doesn’t play the entire shape of the midfield will change, so we almost need two separate starting threes. Fofana definitely has a role in one of those.

That said, he’s got to do better than be brilliant every third game. He’ll probably excel in England so if we can get 30m for him we should probably take it.

  2. “La Gazzetta state that the Rossoneri don’t believe his value has diminished given his performances, and he has been important to Massimiliano Allegri this season as the right-sided mezzala. On the contrary, it is suggested that he could command more than the price paid.” But gotta sell him.

  3. Id swap Koné in for him, can do the same, with more talent on the ball, better vision, mobility and upside. He can refine his play off the ball with Allegri substantially. He is a hidden gem. If 25 to 35 mill is his going price, we should sign him. He will be worth 45 to 55 in a season or two, he will also command less than Fofana, more reliable physically, healthwise than RLC. No brainer for me. He isn’t shy to take a game by the throat when the chips are down.

  4. Yes Milan needs much stronger midfielder.

    Attacking oriented just like Rabiot.

With old Modric there are necessary very good Midfielders, no matter if Fofana stays or is sold out.

Left back, and someone who will compete with Saelemaekers too..

Milan needs to spend again 150 million this year on 4 to 5 quality signings.

  5. His last decision is always the worst one…. If Max can keep him out of either of the penalty boxes and get him to pass when he decides to shoot and vice versa, he’d be a good backup.

  6. I’m knocking on wood as I say this, but if we play in the CL next year I want to keep all of our players who played significant minutes this year and just add talent. I’m ok dumping RLC, Nnkunku, Gimenez, Estupian. But Fofana has been a preferred starter all year, Leao and Pulisic will be needed, as both have proven to be winners in champions league

    1. Ideal but likely unrealistic.

Reality is the funds must come from somewhere for striker and then quality pieces all over for 2 games a week.

      I’d love to be wrong.

Given 352 and the values of Leao and Pulisic they are likely to be sold to fun our needs. (I.e we don’t need wingers, we have two who are valuable, sell them for what we do need)

Not what I want to see happen but likely as a scenario
