‘The hardest worker’ – Postecoglou praises Emerson Royal after ‘fantastic’ Milan move

Ange Postecoglou might not have used Emerson Royal a lot last season, but the Spurs boss has heaped praise on him for his attitude after he left for AC Milan.

Milan got their third signing of the summer transfer window over the line earlier this week as the official announcement of Emerson Royal’s arrival came after weeks of difficult negotiations with the London club.

The 25-year-old right-back was pursued by Milan for much of the summer transfer window as the management aimed to give Paulo Fonseca a reinforcement in that area. We did a deep dive on the Brazilian yesterday, highlighting his strengths and weaknesses plus the key stats.

Postecoglou spoke during his press conference on the eve of Tottenham’s first game of the season and he was asked for his thoughts on the fact that Emerson has departed for pastures new, with HITC relaying his comments.

“Yeah, Emi super guy, great pro again. It is one of those decisions you have to make when you are trying to change squads. Really popular amongst the group and not just because he is a great guy,” he said.

“He didn’t play a lot last year in his preferred position, but you wouldn’t know it the way he trained every day. He is the hardest worker at training and really top guy. He is a guy you would want to spend time with. A big heart, loved by all and I think it is a fantastic move for him.

“He will love Milan, it is a big club he has gone to and it is one of those things that happen in football where it is not really an aspersion on him that he is not part of this. It is just other things aligned. I think it is a win for him and it allows us to continue rebuilding the squad in the way we want.”

    1. Hope so. At least from what ive heard he has never made any disciplinary actions and not much party and drinking, and never involved in bad scandal in public…

  1. PR BS.

If he was all that and a bag of chips, he would have remained in London.

He isn’t a fit for the PL and that’s fine – not everyone’s cup of tea. Let’s just hope that Serie A is a better fit for him and he hits the ground running a la Puli.

    1. Sheesh you just gotta hate. You really think Milan was like “hey Ange say all this nice stuff so the trolls will lay off” 🤣🤣🤣

  2. Let’s just hope he can learn how to defend….

But nice that at least he seems to want to work hard at his trade and improve – always a positive sign
