Stefano Pioli discusses win over Monza, first impressions of Brahim and the transfer window

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli stressed the importance of getting into a rhythm as soon as possible after the 4-1 win over Monza on Saturday night.

The Rossoneri followed one from Wednesday’s 4-2 win over Novara by scoring four goals again, and they were four screamers.

Davide Calabria got on the scoresheet with a low drive from outside the box, while Daniel Maldini restored Milan’s lead with a curling shot in the first half.

Pierre Kalulu added a third in the final five minutes with a sweet strike from outside the box, but Lorenzo Colombo somehow outdid the Frenchman with a superb curling shot from the same distance.

After the game Stefano Pioli spoke to SportMediaset about the runout and about the market.

“We have to do things quickly, we have the qualifier [on September 17]. We ran into difficulties, but we put minutes in the legs. There are good indications but there are many things to work on,” he said (via MilanLive).

“We did not recover some injured people such as Romagnoli, Conti, Musacchio and Leao. There are players away with the national team, Brahim Diaz has just arrived. We will start working fully on the 10th.

“Shamrock Rovers will be far ahead of us, it’s a good team with good physical structure and quality. It will be a qualifier to sweat and conquer.”

On Daniel Maldini and the inclusion of young players: “It depends on their performance during training. Today they were ready, the qualities are there but we have to prove it. The shots are important, now we need to tighten and carry on.”

On Ibrahimovic: “His determination is very high. He knows that by playing you get in condition immediately. We know that the qualifier is a difficult match. We have to get mentally ready.”

First impressions of Brahim Diaz: “He only did one training. He has good technical qualities, he works the ball well with both feet. It will take him some time to understand our football. Qualities are important but it has to work.”

On the market: “I work in perfect harmony with management and club. They are ready to improve the team, if the opportunity arises we will not be caught unprepared.”

Finally, a greeting to Berlusconi and Galliani : “I would have liked to see him here, I wish him great good luck. I also say hello to Galliani.”
