After very little news regarding renewals for some time, there has been a surge of updates. The latest related to Theo Hernandez, and for AC Milan it is positive.
After closing the renewal of Matteo Gabbia (until 2029) and with agreements in place to extend both Matteo Maignan (also until 2029) and Tijjani Reijnders (until 2029 with option until 2030), Milan have begun work on Theo’s too.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), the meeting with Theo’s agent Manuel Garcia Quilon at Casa Milan yesterday saw the two sides get closer together, to the extent that handshakes could arrive ‘in the next few weeks’.
There had already been a meeting at the beginning of November in Madrid, before the Champions League match at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real, while this time the encore took place at Milan’s headquarters.
There is still some distance between the demands for the fixed salary amount and the offer on the table, because the Frenchman’s agent is asking for €6.5m net per season guaranteed while the club have put forward €5.5m.
Nonetheless, the desire to move forward together suggests that an agreement will be found, and the encouraging words from Quilon to reporters outside Casa Milan after the meeting seemed to suggest this.
Meanwhile, the directors and staff are doing everything possible to support Theo in this difficult moment. Naturally, the choices are the responsibility of the coach and no member of the management will intervene on this front.
Despite this, Theo is ‘being supported like one of the family’ and he is being reminded that he remains a very crucial part of the project plus a leader in the dressing room. The attachment is very mutual, therefore, and not a declining relationship as some have suggested.
This can’t be.
We were told for 2 years that Theo, Maignan, Leao would wanna leave Milan because a director got fired and now Maignan and Theo are about to sign an extension. They have to have an insight that Paolo is coming back otherwise why would they wanna continue with Milan without him.
For 2 years we were told that Milan would sell all 3 of them because all they care about is profit, and yet they are still here and about to sign to stay even longer, along with Gabbia, Pulisic and Reijnders.
I guess Milan only sells players that asked to be sold, like the certain bench player with gambling problems in Newcastle.
Players that can make more money at other clubs are turning that down to stay at Milan. I guess we can see who is a true Milanista based on actions not words.
Couple of things: The ink isn’t dry yet on any of this, so just like what “we were told”, it’s all rumors until the official announcement. Then, even if all of these players sign extensions, it does not guarantee they won’t be sold. Kind of naive to think this, actually. Then, the whole thing about what it is to be a “true” [insert club name]-ista is more than black and white. One can’t demand blind loyalty from our players, but then expect other players to leave their clubs when we come knocking. It’s hypocritical. Players have 15-20 year careers, and unless you are a super star half of those years can be spent on low value contracts as you “come up”. Most don’t have formal educations (so, what to do after football?), come from humble backgrounds and have families that could be made comfortable forever, if at least a few generations. If they want to max out their earnings, so be it.
I’ll wait until I see the official signature to make any statment. We had something like a dozen of those “X player close to reaching an agreement” since early september.
Yup, what a true Milanista you are. Haven’t been to this site for a while but hell, I see you’re still bashing Maldini in whatever chance you got. He’s gone for a while already, aren’t you satisfied yet? Go screw a donkey somewhere to get it out of your system.
The name Maldini lives rent free in your head and I’m all here for it 🍿 hahaha 😂😂
The news I’m hearing out of Italy suggests Milan informed Theo he could leave in January. So not sure what lgds is picking up on.
Yeah, I was just about to mention the same “rumor/report”. I think the other story sounds more likely than his renewal.
