A swap deal could materialise late in the window between AC Milan and Juventus, involving a midfielder and a forward.

This morning’s edition of the newspaper Tuttosport (via MilanPress) discusses the situation of Nico Gonzalez. The Argentine remains a Juventus player, but his desire is to return to Atletico Madrid after a year on loan and a failed buyout.

The Old Lady would like to cash in at least €25m from the 28-year-old and are considering other options, including the possibility of doing business with a domestic rival. This is where Milan come in, having initiated discussions with them regarding Youssouf Fofana.

The Rossoneri are looking for a left-footed attacking midfielder, and Gonzalez has the right characteristics, while Fofana is a player they want to offload. Would a straight swap deal suffice, or would Juve be looking for cash to balance the equation?

Another bit of speculation has been the possibility of including Mike Maignan in the conversation, but even though the Piedmontese club greatly appreciate him, this is described as ‘pointless’ as there is no chance of it happening.

After his big-money move to the Bianconeri from Fiorentina, Gonzalez has amassed just five goals and four assists in 40 matches. He scored five times in 37 games for Atletico last season, and it seems his preference is a return there to work with his compatriot Diego Simeone again.

    1. Conceicao, Thuram, Bremer, Yildiz; all players I would take in a hearbeat…

rivalry is fine but let’s acknowledge real ballers

        1. Higuain was overrated from the get go… Bonucci was never 2 men defender… “headline” signings vs targeted ones make difference…

Yildiz and Conceicao behind Ramos would be a hell of an attack no matter the “curse”

      1. Juve’s player seems cursed for Milan. After Pippo, what I remember Milan sign Legrottaglie (2011), Matri (2013), Bonucci (2017), Higuain and Caldara (2018) all flop. Bonucci just won at FIFA XI at that time, Caldara one of the most promising defender, Higuain still world class striker. Big name and big promise seems worthless

        1. So true. All exchanges and transfers have always favoured Juve. Davids and Pirlo too….
Only exception Super Pippo, damn, I remember telling a friend of mine I’m not sure Inzaghi would work at Milan since he was always offside.
He told me, ‘Are you crazy? We are going to get their best player and he will score goals for fun!’
          Seems like yesterday.

  1. Thuram Koopmeiners David Miretti Conceicao

I would take in ASAP otherwise 35-40m for Juve .
For Crystal Palace I’ll try to swap with Ismaila Sarr if not 30m for them

  2. Wasn’t Fofana one of the leading contributors to attacking goals in the last few seasons???

And if I could be bothered I could go back to everyone’s comments when he first signed for the club and oh so excited they all were.

And now it’s all “well I guess that didn’t work out, time to get excited about some new”.

    This is not football.

    1. Oh yeah…This is football. When you have not performed as expected and not lived up to the standards of a team, they cannot keep counting on you while there are others that can do the job, it’s better to part ways. Fofana is a big flop. I have never seen anything special about him when he play.

      1. What does “performed as expected” even mean when a club turns over hundreds of players?

Why do you think the next victim will “perform as expected”?

Is the plan to keep Musah instead???

    2. You are right. Selling Fofana is ok only if Milan brings in a much better player in return. Not one of the names being linked including the clown in this article is a better option. Here’s the golden rule: If you sell one player, the one coming in should be a better player, or….don’t bother.

Marc Casado is no longer needed at Barca. He would be an upgrade on Fofana, not this Fernandez dude.

  3. Fofana has had sooo many opportunities to score – so he’s got that going for him, unfortunately he almost always misses or shoots directly at the goal tender. When he’s not doing that he’s misplacing a pass or three.

    1. Hi Franco Fofana is a defensive Midfielder. No one on earth…except the geniuses in this forum expects goals from their defensive MFs. Fofana added defensive cover and several assists. That’s what I expected, not goals. Milan were not better without him in the team last season. That was 100% clear.

  4. No one single juve players pass amorim tactic. No more cambiaso coz milan already have saladmakers+ diego Moreira…
