Swiss journalist tips Milan defender for January exit amid Everton, Dortmund links

By Oliver Fisher -

Swiss journalist Marcello Pelizzari believes that Ricardo Rodriguez will look to leave AC Milan in the January transfer window due to a lack of game time.

Theo Hernandez arrived in a €20m deal from Real Madrid over the summer and has made the left-back spot his own since arriving, with Rodriguez now relegated to a spot on the bench.

The Swiss defender has been at Milan since 2017 and has made 92 appearances in all competitions, but a report from Blick claimed that he is unsettled, with Atletico Madrid, Schalke, Dortmund, Everton and Roma all monitoring the situation.

Rodriguez also gave an interview with Swiss outlet AZ during which he admitted to being unhappy at not playing as much, something which did little to pour cold water on the exit talk.

Pelizzari – who worked for the Corriere del Ticino – spoke to MilanNews.it about the situation surrounding Granit Xhaka, and about the future of Ricardo Rodriguez.

“Granit and Ricardo are very close friends and, despite never having played for the same club, they grew up playing together in the various youth selections,” he said.

“In 2009 they won the Under 17 youth world championship and both are part of what we in Switzerland call ‘Generation of Gold’.

“Rodriguez is very well in Milan, as far as life outside the field is concerned. From what we understand, the situation is currently not ideal for the same reason we said before Xhaka: even Rodriguez cannot afford to have 6 months on the bench from here to the European Championships and, therefore, he should move in January too. I believe he will return to the Bundesliga.”
