Igli Tare is officially the new sporting director of AC Milan, and the statement made clear who his direct superior is.

As Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) recall, a press release from the club on Monday afternoon confirmed that Tare will be the new sporting director. He arrives with 15 years of experience in the role under his belt, all of which was with Lazio.

Tare at last

Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimović had identified Tare as the right figure back in February, even meeting with him in London. Then, the CEO Giorgio Furlani flew to the USA to meet with Cardinale and reaffirm that he would be the one making the call.

After months of evaluations and negotiations, Furlani has also decided he is the right man too. It does feel like a long period of delay could have been cut out, but nonetheless Tare is fired up, enthusiastic and already fully operational.

Yesterday at Casa Milan, he met with nearly all of the club staff at Casa Milan before having a first meeting with the management of Roma and agent Giuseppe Riso to take stock of some situations.

As the Roman newspaper points out, there was a stand-out phrase in the statement that was published on the official website: “He will report directly to the Club’s Chief Executive Officer, Giorgio Furlani.”

While it is far from uncommon to have the sporting director directly underneath the head of the club’s finances, it did feel like another obvious ploy to make it clear who is in charge inside the offices of Milan.

  1. I think you’re making too much of that. Of course he reports to the CEO, that’s how it works anywhere.
