CorSport: Tare announced Milan want a striker ‘like Giroud’ – the two targets

AC Milan are looking for a new striker, and the sporting director Igli Tare made it clear exactly what mould they want.

It has become clear that Milan want another centre-forward to pair with Santiago Gimenez. Not just because Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic have left while Francesco Camarda will be loaned out, but because there is the need for an alter-ego to the Mexican.

Two striker candidates

During his press conference to journalists at Casa Milan, Milan’s sporting director Tare confirmed that the club are looking for a striker who has almost the same physical and technical characteristics as Olivier Giroud.

“We are evaluating both in Italy and outside Italy: it is a question of characteristics and for our team’s game it is fundamental. He must be a player with completely different characteristics to those of Gimenez who is not a centre-forward like Giroud: we must be good at completing these two things together,” he said.

“[…] We are taking the necessary time to understand what shape the team will take but we have clear ideas about what type of player he will be, with the characteristics of a true centre-forward who can make the difference inside the area: this has been missing since Giroud’s farewell.”

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) report, Dusan Vlahovic could certainly be an opportunity – thanks to his break with Juventus – but the intentions of the management seem to be different.

The two names that would be most tempting for Casa Milan would be Mateo Retegui and Aleksander Mitrovic, two proper penalty area strikers, the kind that guarantee you at least 20 goals a season.

Although the club is looking for a solution in attack, at the moment the priority is to rebuild the midfield department and to sign two new full-backs.

  1. Retegui is not Giroud like, he is more like Gimenez. Btw they didn’t get Retegui when he was like 16mil despite many of us here saying go get this guy and they want him now at 40+mil lol. You know your scouting team is pathetic when ordinary fans are better scouts than your so called professionals.

  2. Or maybe you can try Oka4 as a striker rather than as a winger. Sometimes it just feels like we have solutions within but we’re of the mindset that if it’s not paid for then it’s no good.

Shouldn’t the coach have at least two training sessions with the players and make evaluations or maybe re-evaluate?

    1. Also I think it’s best to let players be themselves. It’s like signing a Brazilian and saying, “he’s too Brazilian.” Sometimes a coach sees a player’s characteristics and triss to get the best out of it instead of trying to make them what they’re not. Or maybe the next guy has a better opinion…

    2. Agree with you completely. New manager, new system, player on a summer’s rest – we should be trying to make the most of them.

    3. Believe me my friends
If Milan conduct a training session with allergri, even
      Theo
      Abraham
Jovic e.tc won’t go anywhere Cos we have the players here

  3. I don’t know what Mitrovic price and salary is but his playing style is perfect for Serie A.
Rather sign him than Vlahovic or Retegui.

  4. Atalanta would love to get 40+ mil for Retegui because they already have the next one identified and lined up. Just like after they sold Hojlund.

Maybe our scouts could find some of these guys instead of lining Atalanta’s pockets.

That said, give me Mitro over Retegui.

  5. Joshua Zirkzee would be a good option if he could come at a cut rate price. Regardless of his struggles at Man United, he is proven in Serie A.
