Tassotti says a ‘real deputy Giroud is missing’ but admits Milan have ‘more solutions’

Former AC Milan defender Mauro Tassotti has said that whilst there is still not actually a real backup for Olivier Giroud in the squad, there are more attacking options for Stefano Pioli now.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it), Tassotti explained that there are lots of different attacking options at the club now which means that there are plenty of different tactical routes that Stefano Pioli can go down.

Players like Christian Pulisic, Samuel Chukwueze and Noah Okafor have given the team more firepower.

“Milan now has more solutions, a squad full of quality players who can occupy different positions: Pioli can use more shapes and the team is more unpredictable than that of the 2022 Scudetto. The strong point is the ability to create on the outside, in attack, with people like Pulisic, Okafor and Chukwueze, and also in midfield. When they spread out, Reijnders and Musah are a danger for the defence.”

Despite their arrivals and the signing of Luka Jovic on a short-term deal, Tassotti feels that there is not actually a genuine backup for Giroud at the club right now. Despite that, he still had some praise for Jovic.

“The issue remains the centre-forward: a real deputy Giroud is missing, but Jovic in good condition will be a valid alternative.”

Jovic made his first Milan start against Genoa but he was unable to make a serious impact and is still searching for his first goal.
