Tassotti says Milan could ‘go all the way’ in the Champions League with new signings

Despite missing out on a top-eight finish, AC Milan have performed better in the Champions League than in Serie A this season. Mauro Tassotti, the club’s former player and assistant manager, even believes the Rossoneri could go far in the competition.

Due to a defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the final round, Milan just missed out on a top-eight finish and thus have to face Feyenoord in a play-off tie. They are still the favourites to go through and thus secure a ticket for the knockout phase, but everything could have been so much easier.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (see photo below), the Rossoneri’s former assistant manager and player Mauro Tassotti shared his thoughts on the remainder of the season. Having won five UCL trophies with the club, he certainly knows a thing or two about the competition.

“The team seems more suited to the Champions League where they have already beaten Real Madrid: they can have a good run and, if they get excited, go all the way. In Serie A, they must find the continuity that they have not had so far: they can only enter the top four with a streak of victories.”

Of course, by ‘going all the way’ Tassotti doesn’t necessarily mean reaching the final and winning it, but rather making it far in the competition. Some tough opponents would be in the way, though, so Sergio Conceicao would really have to get things together perfectly.

  1. Lets be clear.
We lost to Dinamo Zagreb who are 3rd in the Croatian league.
The Croatian league is ranked 19th in Europe!!

We needed to win to qualify and they had virtually nothing to play for.

This team has a lot to do before they deserve any hype or credit. Playing 1 good game a month is not enough.

Forget CL for a minute, can we beat Empoli tonight???

    1. “We needed to win to qualify and they had virtually nothing to play for.”

      LOL. BS!!!

Zagreb needed to win to be able to qualify. We were already there. Zagreb was VERY unlucky that Bologna conceded and therefor they were left out.

Check you facts before saying such BS.

      1. The facts are they won and did not qualify. Yes they had a small chance to go through, so as I said they had virtually nothing to play for

LOL. Probably the stupidest thing I’ve read here this year.

  2. lets fix the defensive phase and work on maintaining a consistent level of performances before we talk about CL progress.

In CL our best bet might be to play compact, sit back and counter.
