Tavolieri: Real Betis decide not to pursue Milan winger but other clubs are keen

By Oliver Fisher -

Alexis Saelemaekers is expected to leave AC Milan in the final few days of the summer transfer window but Real Betis are not expected to be his destination, a journalist has claimed.

The additions of Luka Romero, Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze mean that Stefano Pioli now has an abundance of options for the right flank, something he has been after for some time.

This threatens to drastically reduce the playing time available to Saelemaekers, who was actually used mostly as a deputy right-back in preseason and is not even training with the rest of the squad at present.

According to the latest from Sacha Tavolieri, Betis asked for information regarding Saelemaekers and even spoke directly with the player.

However, the Spanish club ultimately decided not to go for the 24-year-old. Other clubs are still interested though, and Milan are hoping they are able to offload the former Anderlecht man before the window is done.

  1. This is what football clubs do: we upgraded in his position and now we’re selling him on. Some people are treating this like the Tonali sale. Alexis played hard for us but that’s what we should expect from every player. Wish him well.

    1. Which is why it’s weird when some suggest krunic sales to fund a better replacement.
Sure saelemaker always a professional, but he’s lacking in a lot of aspects to be a starter or even a back up right winger.
And people seem to forget that sometimes the players themselves who want to go.
I’m sure saelemaker knows he won’t get many playing time next season and decided he needs to find another team where he can play regularly, same can be said about colombo.

      1. krunić is a different situation.. Rw was stacked.
DM is not stacked. And yes Rade is not a natural DM. But if we sell Rade and bring in someone else Milan still needs one more DM. And names mentioned arent really upgrades anyway.

  2. He’d actually be pretty useful as a wing back in 3-5-2 obviously not a formation we use. But there are plenty of teams out there. He’s not quite defensive enough to be a dependable RB and not offensive enough (though that goal against Napoli in the 4-0 win 😘 ) to be a winger.

I heard he fell out with Pioli is that true? We signed him for €7mn I think, surely we can get at least that amount as his transfer fee?
