Tchouameni admits Milan are ‘lucky’ to have Maignan: “One of the best”

Mike Maignan had a difficult season for AC Milan, not in the sense that he was poor, but perhaps, he faced higher levels of criticism about his performances. However, this could be due to the team’s overall performance. At Euro 2024, though, he has fully re-established himself as one of the best, if it was even needed.

Everyone from Milan faced higher levels of criticism last season, which is understandable in a season where it was easier to find things that went wrong, rather than what went right. Therefore, higher levels of scrutiny are understandable.

In turn, over a season the higher levels of criticism will have likely caused a slight drop in confidence. However, if there were any doubts about Mike Maignan’s levels, these have quickly been lessened after his Euro 2024 campaign so far.

He has conceded just one goal in five games, a hugely impressive feat which was made that much more impressive by the fact that the goal was a penalty from Lewandowski, who has only missed nine of his 89 career penalties, and an area Maignan struggles with anyway.

Following last night’s fixture against Portugal, which saw Rafael Leao eliminated after a tough campaign, Maignan’s French teammate, Aurelien Tchouameni spoke to the press about the shot stopper’s importance to the team. and his comments have been relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“He is an incredible goalkeeper. He is one of the best in the world, Milan is very lucky to have him. We are very good in defence, but when they manage to get through we are lucky to have a goalkeeper who makes the difference.”

This message was echoed by Kylian Mbappe too, showing the importance the entire French roster places on Milan’s No.1.

    1. Well he is. If you bought Martinez from Villa nobody would remember Maignan in 2 years. Di Gregorio is also a top goalkeeper, seems much better than Maignan at that age. And so on. There is a bunch of great goalkeepers that can replace him for half the price. So if anyone should be sold that is the player, he missed how many games last season? For 80M, too much.

      1. This was really an insightful and deep expertise backed by extensive and exhaustive analysis in numbers gotten from combination of complex algorithms.

        Thank you mister.

        1. Dude maignan is great but is probably the position we can fill the easiest and cheapest for a player who albeit world class is injury prone. If someone paid what the management was supposedly asking for, for half of that we could get Diogo Costa or Dibu or Merets or even the next Maignan

    2. LOL. Exactly.

He’s trash and we should sell for 10 EURO and pick the guy who runs the fruit stand outside San Siro to replace him cause you know it’s so easy to find a worlds best keeper cause that’s how all title winning teams do it —-sell their worlds best players and replace them with 5 average ones. Works every time 😂😂😂😂

  1. Maignan has been very good for France. Great reaction saves. Not very effective at PK’s. We already knew all this.

I hope he does renew at sensible numbers. Not that he isn’t worth 8mil but I hope he likes where he is and the project he’s part of.

  2. Maignan had a good game, and right away, he is the best in the world.
Just a reminder that Maignan was the goalkeeper of the team that last season was giving up a sh!t ton of goals. Some of them were his fault.
BTW, Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa also gave up just 1 goal in 5 games at the Euro, had a bunch of important saves, besides saving all of the penalties he faced vs Slovenia in the previous round. The only reason why he isn’t talked about today and Maignan is , it is because one of his teammates hit the post and they lost.
If he asks for 8 mil, he should absolutely be sold, because that’s way too much money for a goalkeeper for serie A financial standards.
If he can’t stay healthy, he should absolutely be sold. Best ability is availability.
If he performs like he did for Milan last season, he should absolutely be sold. 8 mil for a guy that has problem saving shots at the near posts.
Goalkeeper is the easiest position to replace.
Juve just signed Di Gregorio for 18 mil..Tottenham last summer signed Vicario for 19 mi. Milan signed Maignan for 15 instead of paying 12 mil to Gigio.
Easiest position to replace. The goalkeeper is as good as the defense in front of him. Last season was proof of that. Milan had poor defense and Maignan was just as poor.

  3. Tchuameini is right , ACM should renew him at 7m euro nett / years equal to leao . But if he refuse and asking more than that then let him go free transfer 2 years later like donnarumma ,thats ACM style right ? Letting key player go free transfer and say bravely in public : no player are bigger than club or we will not surrender to player demand
