Tevez recalls the time he nearly joined Milan and admits Juventus acted ‘secretly’

By Oliver Fisher -

It has often been claimed that Carlos Tevez could have joined AC Milan, and now the former striker has confirmed that it was a real possibility.

Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera), Tevez recalled when in December 2011 he was very close to joining Milan, a team that had just won the Scudetto the season prior and still had the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Pato.

The ‘Apache’ also spoke about his coaching career and his source of inspiration – Antonio Conte – someone who has also been linked with a role at Milan in the past few weeks and months.

“I was going to Milan, but it didn’t depend on me or Galliani. There has always been esteem and a lot of respect. Then every time I played against Milan I did very well,” he said.

“Juventus moved well, even a little secretly, and managed to get me. Milan in the future? Who knows, however, I may cross paths with Milan again. Maybe as a coach.”

Speaking on Conte, a coach who has been mentioned as an option for Milan and Juventus for next season, Tevez said that he is inspired by him ‘for his passion and obsession for victory’, recalling a memory.

“We were fighting for the Scudetto with Roma, I was in Argentina due to a family problem and I couldn’t train. We would have played with the Giallorossi at the weekend,” he said.

First he told me not to worry, three days later he asked me to come back because we had to win at all costs and he wanted me on the pitch . For him only victory existed.”

Tevez began his career with Boca Juniors, winning the Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup in 2003 before moving to Brazilian club Corinthians, then heading to England with West Ham United in 2006.

A year later he joined Manchester United and then in 2009 he joined their city rivals Manchester City. In the 2010–11 season he won the Premier League Golden Boot, and in the 2011–12 season he won the Premier League title. A spell at Juve followed, then he returned to Boca Juniors twice either side of a spell in China.

  1. We paid slightly less for Matri at Juventus than they paid for Teves in Manchester.

In effect ACM sponsered Tevez to Juventus and got Matri. Perhpas one of the worst transfers in the history of football.

    1. You can argue that we financed their tevez transfer but matri was first bought roughly two months later. In the end im sure we can all agree that we should have gotten tevez instead. We might actually have avoided the banter era to some extent had we gotten that deal done.
