FC Gintra 1-1 AC Milan Women: Rossonere open preseason with a drew – the highlights

By Steph Insixiengmay -

The AC Milan Women played their first friendly of the season yesterday against FC Gintra, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Milan lined-up in a 4-3-1-2 and had the majority of possession but appeared to be disjointed at the back, as they were often caught out of possession and had trouble dealing with the speedy counter-attacks of the Lithuanian champions.

However, one has to keep in mind that this is the first time the team has played a match together in several weeks. One also has to keep in mind that the team is in a process of transition and that it will take a while for the team to find the right chemistry with one another.

The match also saw Milan fielding their new signings, as Nina Stapelfeldt and Sara Thrige started this match. Defender Giorgia Miotto and goalkeeper Laura Giuliani also started the second half.

The Rossonere will now resume training in preparation for their upcoming Champions League qualifiers in August. Before then, they’ll play two more friendly matches, with the first one slated for next Saturday. The next two matches will be against Servette and the newly formed Sampdoria, respectively. Until then, you can watch a replay of their last match down below, or on Youtube.

Milan’s official formation (4-3-2-1): Korenčiová (46’ Giuliani); Thrige (59’ Rizza), Fusetti, Agard, Bergamaschi; Mauri (46’ Miotto), Boquete, Grimshaw; Thomas (66’ Longo), Stapelfeldt (76’ Kirschstein); Giacinti. Coach: Ganz.
