The Athletic: Spurs given clear path as Milan and Barcelona are unlikely to move for Chelsea outcast

Milan’s search for a centre-back is still underway with just a few days left of the transfer market. In the last few days, they have been linked with Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, but a move has been ruled out.

According to David Ornstein for The Athletic, the Rossoneri made a new enquiry for the defender following Thursday’s clash against Rio Ave. However, even with the extra funds from Europa League qualification, a loan move was deemed too expensive.

In addition to Milan, the likes of Tottenham and Barcelona have also expressed their interest in the former Roma defender. For various reasons, though, it remains unclear where the German international will play this season.

Tottenham are Rudiger’s preferred destination, but the relations between Chelsea and Spurs are very poor. Barcelona, meanwhile, need to figure out what to do with Jean-Clair Todibo and Samuel Umtiti, meaning they can’t make any concrete moves.
