The best and worst case scenarios for AC Milan in the Champions League draw

By Oliver Fisher -

The Champions League draw will take place at 18:00 CET today, and AC Milan are eagerly awaiting finding out who their group stage opponents.

Below are the four pots, which have been fully determined after the remaining qualification games took place last night…

Pot 1
Chelsea (ENG) 98.000
Villarreal (ESP) 63.000
Bayern (GER) 134.000
Manchester City (ENG) 125.000
Atlético de Madrid (ESP) 115.000
Inter Milan (ITA) 53.000
Sporting CP (POR) 45.500
LOSC Lille (FRA) 14.000

Pot 2
Real Madrid (ESP) 127.000
Barcelona (ESP) 122.000
Juventus (ITA) 120.000
Manchester United (ENG) 113.000
Paris Saint-Germain (FRA) 113.000
Liverpool (ENG) 101.000
Sevilla (ESP) 98.000
Borussia Dortmund (GER) 90.000

Pot 3
Porto (POR) 87.000
Ajax (NED) 82.500
Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) 79.000
Leipzig (GER) 66.000
Salzburg (AUT) 59.000
Benfica (POR) 58.000
Atalanta (ITA) 50.500
Zenit (RUS) 50.000

Pot 4
Beşiktaş (TUR) 49.000
Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) 47.000
Club Brugge (BEL) 35.500
Young Boys (SUI) 35.000
AC Milan (ITA) 31.000
Malmö (SWE) 18.500
Wolfsburg (GER) 14.714
Sheriff Tiraspol (MDA) 14.500

The Rossoneri are in the fourth pot, and the optimistic way to look at it is that most teams will be wanting to avoid drawing a historic European heavywight in their group, but the pessimistic viewpoint is that it could produce a very difficult draw.

On paper, it seems that the best draw Milan can hope for is Sporting CP, Sevilla and Red Bull Salzburg – but all of those three teams are of course potential stumbling blocks.

The worst possible draw based on coefficient points is Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Porto, but Manchester City, Barcelona and Ajax for example would also be very daunting.

  1. I think Lille would be the best option for us from the pot 1. They lost half of their champion team and their manager. Now they are struggling with League 1 a lot.

  2. I want to See Milan plays againts Man. City from pot 1
    Paris SG from pot 2
    Ajax. from pot 3
So we know the quality of our coach Mr. Pioli and our Best versality player Krunic and his brother castillejo

  3. Prefer us getting a soft start so we can easier progress and also earn as much cash as possible and after 8 years and a pandemic im pretty confident that we will fill up san siro or as much as we are allowed. Milan might have champions league in its dna but over half of our players has never played a game in the tournament and with a great influx of new players we would also benefit from such draw as nobody of us wanna see us getting thrashed even if we play the big teams. In spring this team will have gelled better so let the big teams be beaten then,
Its in the interest of the club and players to go as far as possible but either way it will be interesting to see who we will be matched up with.

    1. After the drawing, Milan will play againts Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, porto. I don’t know if the management put their target going to knock out stage. this is gonna be big Test for pioli . But I doubt that Milan going to Next stage. It’s not about the DNA but this is about mentallity and tactical choice by the head coach. Anyone remember, when Ajax won UCL trophy in 1995 they beat Milan in final by goal of kluivert . I can say 90 % of the players had No experience in the big tournament except Danny Blind and Former Milan star Frank Rijkaard.

      1. its not like i disagree with what you are saying but i pretty much mentioned the dna thing because some people tends to think because we have a great history in the tournament means we can just beat better equipped teams on that basis of us having cl in our dna. unfortunately not a great deal of our squad has that experience so they might need some time to adapt to the higher level of intensity throughout the matches,
Anyways ofcourse surprises can be made and ofcourse i remember the cl final against ajax so its not like its impossible but nevertheless unlikely. Finally though i think if we have a full squad and on a good day we can propably beat all teams or give them a rough day on the office so we will just have to see how it goes.
