The good news for AC Milan is that in less than two weeks a disastrous season will end, but then it will be time for big decisions which they must get right.
As Calciomercato.com report, Giorgio Furlani wanted to obtain power for himself but he can no longer abstain or postpone on making some crucial calls. The first choice to make will be that of the sporting director, with Tony D’Amico of Atalanta still his preferred target.

Italian coach arriving
Then it will be time to pick the head coach. The certainty (or almost) is that the next coach of Milan will be Italian. Sergio Conceicao will be fired at the end of the season and with him will also go the search for a gamble that has not paid off this season.
D’Amico has mentioned the names of Gian Piero Gasperini (difficult, he could renew his contract with Atalanta) and Maurizio Sarri. The former Napoli and Chelsea coach is looking for a new challenge and would say yes to an ambitious project.
Gasperini and Sarri are not the only two names on Milan’s list. The way Bologna won by dominating the Coppa Italia final has removed any doubts from within: Vincenzo Italiano is right for Milan. Furlani’s thoughts are this and the Bologna coach remains a strong candidate.
Massimiliano Allegri remains in the running but now there is a lot of competition to beat. He should decide his future in the next 15-20 days. Milan wants to do things properly, they cannot afford to make mistakes, but they cannot postpone the decision. They have to rise from the ashes.
As much as he would be the perfect candidate, we can write Italiano off. We’re after a freebie so it’s between Allegri and Sarri. Allegri probably has higher wage demands. So that leaves us with Sarri.
I’m keeping my eye on Gasperini, he’s still not decided about staying in Atalanta although he has a contract until 2026.
This is literally the definition of a DEI hire.
Hire someone because of nationality and race, instead of the best regardless.

Zidan, Klop … What are you if he’s a jerk? With Sarri and Allegri or Gasperini to make a champion Milan? That Milan that should be competitive in the Champions League. Who is the Italian coach other than Inzaghi? Not one. Conte is not playing Europe. Sarri old, Gasperini old, Allegri terrible. Italiano is promising, but it’s a gamble.
If Sergio bring Milan to champion league/ at least Europa league. What will they do ? I think with many mediocre Milan management, he still will go…
Being Italian is irrelevant but experience and success in Serie A is definitely a plus. It’s sad to say but at this point ,unless they are given a lot of power, Milan would be a step down for Italiano and Gasperini. De Zerbi, Sarri, and Allegri are more likely.
Our problem these past two seasons though has been the incompetence and unprofessional behavior of ownership and management. Their transfers have been abysmal and, in my opinion, done without consulting any of Pioli, Fonseca, or Conceicao. All three struggled to find a functional system for this group of players. Then, they hung the coaches out to dry, showing their face only when the team was winning. Regardless what you think of Lopetegui, he was their pick, and they backed off him when the fans got mad. This means there was no sporting basis for their choice. This lack of professionalism trickles down to the players. How many people here think Abraham and Theo would have gotten away unpunished with the penalty mutiny under Maldini and Pioli?
Ultimately, the power to make footballing decisions should be taken away from these guys and given to a Sporting Director and the coach.
Shouldn’t this be the job of the sporting director we’re refusing to hire for some reason?
