Sky: The XI Pioli tried in training ahead of Napoli game – return to four-man defence

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli appears to be working on the switch back to a four-man defence based on the clues from training today, a report claims.

According to reports from Sky (via MilanNews), this morning at Milanello Pioli worked above all on a four-man defence with Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori as the two centre-backs and not Malick Thiaw.

Davide Calabria was on the right side of the defence and Theo Hernandez on the left, with Ismael Bennacer and Sandro Tonali in the midfield double pivot in what is indeed a 4-2-3-1 rather than a 4-3-3.

Rafael Leao is certain of his spot on the left, while as playmaker Brahim Diaz is the slight favourite over Rade Krunic, and on the right it should be Alexis Saelemaekers but Alessandro Florenzi being used there cannot be ruled out. Olivier Giroud was the centre-forward, as expected.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, Theo; Tonali, Bennacer; Saelemaekers (Florenzi), Brahim Diaz (Krunic), Giroud, Leao.
