When he left AC Milan, it was pretty clear that Theo Hernandez and the management weren’t seeing eye to eye. Now, that has been further confirmed.
Theo’s departure from Milan was a difficult one; he was threatened with being frozen out of the squad in a World Cup year and then he was sold. However, his position was clear. He didn’t want to leave the club and this has been the continued message since.
His partner stated as much in an interview and recent reports have even stated that he wishes to return to San Siro, to the place he never wanted to leave.
It is clear he felt that he was forced out. Now, there are two sides to every story; he may have been ‘forced out’ due to excessive wage demands. We do not know the whole picture.
However, any chance of a return happening is probably, if not definitely, unlikely, thanks to a recent act on social media.
Theo likes anti-RedBird message
On Instagram, MilanNews posted a frustrated message to the management, reading as follows:
“You killed our passion, love, and ambition. AC Milan.
“Four years to extinguish our enthusiasm, identity, and ambition. A Super Cup isn’t enough to mask a management style that has divided the Rossoneri fans, who have become accustomed to watching others celebrate.
“(*2023/24 Milan fourth because Juventus was penalized; *2025/26 Milan third with the season still underway).”
Under the post, as can be seen below, a like from Theo Hernandez. Now this is not a regular occurrence. Scrolling through the feed of the Milan channel, there are no recent likes from the Frenchman.
So, to see his name appear next to those who have liked the post is telling. His feelings are quite clear and it would surely make a return, at least under the current management, difficult.
I never understood people that don’t agree with this assessment. Redbird did nothing. They are worse than a vulture investment fund that got Milan due to the Li guy defaulting on a loan. They actually won the Scudetto as they brought in Gazidis to handle the finances part and let football people run the football part. Also in CL semi finals. And then came Redbird.
Li bought the club in 2017, and then he, Fassone and Mirabelli all exited in 2018. In July 2018 Elliott acquired full ownership of AC Milan. Leonardo was then appointed as Sporting Director. Ivan Gazidis was hired in September 2018 and didn’t start until December 2018. Maldini was appointed a director in June 2018, then more specifically Technical Director in June 2019. Ricky Massara was appointed Sporting Director in June 2019, replacing Leonardo. Scudetto was won in 2022. That scudetto was won by Elliot, not Li, Mirabelli and Fassone.
But you are definitely right about one thing: Redbird is responsible to the breakup and disintegration of that scudetto winning squad and organization, and we’ve been mediocre since.

We lost four years under this loser. Instead of just simply upgrading the squad that won the title by adding world class RB, DC, RWB, AMC and some younger SC which would in time (and gradually) replace Giroud, we did exactly the opposite and dismantled the team.

One of the 2 football people that were fired isn’t in football, while the other has already been fired twice since he got fired by Milan.

Regardless of Theos flaws and sometimes bad temper and slacking off I’d rather have a one legged Theo in AC Milan than the Equadorian who by the way most likely and hopefully also will be gone in 2 months time.
Gazidis, Boban, Maldini, and Massara (and Leonardo too I guess) are all football men who got us our 19th title. We were building a club then, now we’re a market. End of story.

Sporting Ambition is expensive especially to maintain. RedBird doesn’t do “expensive to maintain”. If anything, the last 4 years have shown us that. Look at the market – acquire, dismantle, sell. Rinse & Repeat.
Gerry’s only real way to make money here is to break ground on the stadium, get the NBA team going and offload and double the investment. PERIOD.
You know who gives a flying f*ck about what Milan does or doesn’t do on the pitch? No one in charge. The status quo is just to maintain at the current level – afloat and irrelevant. Proof: again, look at the market last four years – zero sporting ambition.
And if that’s not proof enough, the people in charge of the club who have done a p1ss poor job with it the last 4 years on EVERY level (except financial) are still in charge. In what other business do failing executives maintain their positions?
Nothing will change Milan’s fortunes until Gerry sells it to someone who gives a d*mn. And that is in jeopardy because Italian bureaucracy makes it so unappealing for anyone abroad to invest money here…
