CorSera: Theo risks ‘ending up in the stands’ at Milan without sale as relations become tense

There is a risk of a total breakdown between AC Milan and Theo Hernandez, according to a report, and he could spend next season in the stands.

The soap opera surrounding the future of the full-back now seems to have settled into a quite clear stance: Milan want to sell the defender for more money to Saudi Arabia, he wants to stay in Europe, but Atletico Madrid are not offering enough.

A bitter ending?

According to Corriere della Sera (via MilanPress) this morning, Theo and Milan’s ‘love story could end in the worst possible way’. Never before, since 2019, have the two parties been so distant and at loggerheads.

The left-back has a contract expiring in June 2026 and the Rossoneri have no intention of offering him a renewal, so much so that they want to say goodbye to him in the summer window in order to cash in on his transfer.

The player has rejected the advances of Al-Hilal, ready to offer €30m to Milan – which they would accept – and a huge salary. Atletico Madrid are interested in him, but will not go beyond €15m which is not enough.

The paper adds that the management have warned him: find a team that offers the same amount as the Saudis or ‘risk ending up in the stands next season’. The possibility of Theo being ostracised at home cannot be ruled out.

  1. He should leave already! I can never forget the red card against Feyenoord…. We’ve had great players before him, and there will be after him. He should f*ck off!!

    1. The bad performance and the frustration of the players is the culmination of bad management. Milan is being managed badly by Redbird.
Just look at how every year looks like they trying to sell the best players or struggle to extend them. And don’t forget that every year is like year 0 since Maldini left

      1. As far as the management has been terrible, one cannot absolve Theo of becoming toxic. No one is indispensable; Milan is still Milan and will always be.
He wants out, that’s fine; let his agents convince Atletico to pay up then.

      2. Inter Milan has sold their STAR players in recent times more than any top side in Italy.

The only top players Milan has sold since Redbird took over before this transfer window is Tonali.
All the others left for free, Donna, Hakan and Kessie.
Milan has tried to keep its best players.

Inter Milan has has sold Icardi, Hakimi, Lukaku, Skriniar, Brozovic Onana. That is almost a Scudetto winning team.

And please can we just let the Maldini name rest, please.
I don’t want to continue analysing his performance, I can give you hard facts, but it may look as if I don’t love or respect him, as I observed many in here lack the maturity for a constructive argument or disagreement whilst still showing respect for the subject of criticism.
A constructive criticism should not be seen as a criminal act on a person.

So many fans here lack reasoning, no pun intended though.

        1. Lukaku was a loan, skrinar left on a free, icardi was declining, and so was brozovic. Hakimi was the only one that mattered to inter. Not a very good argument if you put those names out their.

          1. Very funny dude. They buy lukaku from MU and sell him to chelsea for 120m euro. Just google that. No one there on IM are immune from selling even barella & bastoni. They get hundred million euro from selling key player while ACM not even half from that

          2. “Icardi was declining, and so was Brozovic”

Ok, Leao, Theo and Maignan are declining, so let’s sell them, then why the complain?

Only Skriniar left for free, ok noted. My error.

All these players were part of Inter’s best players in the seasons they played, it doesn’t matter if you claim they were declining or not, they were Inter’s best players.

They were sold, but all hell will let loose because we sold one top player in five years.

  2. In any professional environment, it’s the ownership that sets the price — not the other way around. Theo, who has been an important player for Milan, has mistaken being important for doing whatever he wants. A serious club doesn’t sell off its assets cheaply; it makes decisions and takes action. Its credibility and authority are at stake.

    1. The market sets the price. How much someone’s willing to pay for the one year of his contract there is left and the salary and fees they’d need to pay on top.

  3. As much as I dislike the ownership and management of the club and even when its a bit of a douchebag move its in the ownerships right to do so but come on man nobody in their right frame of mind want to join the Saudi clubs at his state of his career unless they actually only think about money. Not to mention that not every player around would even consider joining a Saudi club.
Settle for 20 some mil and sell him if the relationship is completely broken down. That would be more than a reasonable buying fee for a player of his stature even with an expiring contract.

  4. Players have right to decide where they go it’s their career choice and management decides how much they are worth. If management decides to put him in stands which I highly doubt they will this will lead to legal hurdles probably involving players association. This for any club doesn’t leave a good image unless you are Napoli owner. He may be acted like a spoil brat but this all started since pioli left. The coach plays central part in players performance with fonseca was the wrong choice to begin with. That decision single handlely derailed Milan season. When players don’t respect coach they are bound to fail..look at rotten culture at man united… Milan management have messed it up they look at end of season accounts and sale players to cover the red. This guy spend how many 6 season at club may be he realised it’s time to move on and experience new challenges. Management should have given him new contract last year instead of dragging next year to manage their accounts. Now bear the fruits…

    1. Milan wasn’t the only one to appoint the “wrong” manager. Juventus also did.
But we could see that the players bounced back once Motta was sacked. They qualified for the CL.

But at my darling Milan, we will hold on to Fonseca’s appointment as the “decision single handlely derailed Milan season”.

Fonseca spent 6 months at Milan, but somehow the decision also affected Conceicao’s 6 months.
Motta spent 9 months in charge at Juventus, but this was no excuse by the players who immediately responded when the manager was sacked.

If you still cannot see that even Guardiola couldn’t have salvaged the season then you need some schooling.
Regardless of the manager we appointed, the players had agreed to sabotage the season simply because the coaches dared to challenge status quo for some untouchable players.

      1. Motta was coming off an incredible season with Bologna. Milan were after him too. What was Fonseca coming off of… A high?

It was a terrible decision is a series of questionable decisions that these incompetent managers have been making for years …

        1. If your last season was a prerequisite for making choices, then Juventus made it right with Motta but he failed abysmally.

Milan is not the only club who makes errors in coach appointments.

Even the most well run clubs make errors too, for instance, Bayern Munich, PSG, Chelsea, Real Madrid even Barcelona all recently made errors.
Was is because they had American owners?
Guys, wake up to meaningful conversations please.

The management have their lapses, no doubt. But let’s be reasonable as we air our frustrations.

      2. Pep had bad season yeah I need schooling look at what he won in all those years. One bad season doesn’t derail man city….he is a serial winner every cycle has it end. Players sabotage it all started with pioli sacking. The appointment of new manager who messed up from the start doesn’t help the matter….even before fonseca appointment the decision to appoint that Spanish one was one wrong move of too many which management took…..its easier to blame players rather then those who actually make decisions…

  5. Next year is the World Cup. A year spent on the stands without any games or match fitness is a real threat to Theo … Deschamps already sideswiped about Theo (and Mike) not in Champions League next season, so cannot imagine Theo who’s not even playing the league games to be in WC2026 … Theo should know what’s at stake. Could be his last World Cup as a starter too (as he will be 32yo in WC2030) …

  6. I’d rather have 15m than Theo in the stands, however there are months left in the window. Get Mike out first, the Chelsea offer is decent imo.

  7. please don’t force a player to go in the club he doesnt want, the clu failed to renew or sell him on time, so why being so selfish to throw him in a place he doesnt want. let’s find a mutual consent and receive whatever they bring, it will be far than having 0 next year.

  8. Why are we doing this to him? With a good coach, he can become again the best LB in the world.

We have lost it. We are insane to di this to our best players.

  9. I’d do the same. Sit at home and change haircuts every week. Toxic person. Don’t need him, don’t want him here. There is a reason why only Saudis want him.

    1. Yes there is. They can get him for 0 next season. Real Madrid just brought Alexander Arnold for free, before that Rudiger, Alaba and so on. For 0 he will have 5-10 offers, easy.

          1. It was a question. You don’t have to be that butthurt if the question is too intelligent for you to understand or reply.

      1. Attracting 5-10 offers when on a free transfer is not and can never be a sing that a player is a hot and wanted commodity.

Rather it is how much a club is willing to pay for your services regardless of the years left on the player’s contract.
For instance, Man Utd signed Yoro (a CB) for €70m despite having just a year left on his contract, now that’s a wanted commodity, no club wanted to wait to have him for free, hence a bidding war erupted between Man Utd, Real Madrid and Liverpool, again, that’s the definition of a wanted commodity.

  10. Put him and Maignan at primavera.Dont let them play any game at first team. Make example for all players who have behavior like this punk.
What are they think? They better then club, idiots

  11. If management are really upset that he won’t go to Saudi when he is 26 or 27 they’re not living in reality. You can’t force that on anyone. Especially a year before the WC.

That said, everyone should work the phones and find a deal in Europe.

Clubs will low ball Milan though. It’s not a secret that the relationship is broken. Get what you can for him and move along.

  12. Chill, it’s early june, not like it’s the end of august.
There’s plenty time to sell him.
There’s a chance a left back from other clubs gets acl injury so they will be forced to buy another left back.

  13. Let him sit in the stands.. Actually, don’t allow him in the stands. Send him away like Origi. Then he won’t be playing for France in the World Cup either.

  14. I don’t know that sitting Theo on the bench for a year solves anything for the club or the team.

Another question is whether Theo can be of use to Allegri in his traditionally defensive set ups. He’s a liability in a 4 man back line. Would he provide enough balance in a 3-5-2 that Conceicao was using? Can Allegri actually use Theo?

If not, then you need to offload him for whatever you can get for him. Completely your fault for waiting this long to resolve his contract and leave yourself in this predicament.

“Money Ball” this… “Money Ball” that… and they can’t even sell their valuable players on a high. Because they are finance people, not football people. They don’t have a sense for the timing in football… That’s where experience and competence comes in.

    1. They sold Tonali and Reijnders on the high with the right timing, yet they have received backlash for that.

What exactly can they ever do right?

  15. I want him to leave but this isn’t the way to do it you can’t force him to accept Saudi. Maybe if Conte was brought in from the beginning a lot of this seasons rubbish wouldn’t have happened but here we are
