Thiaw admits debut was ‘a moment of pride’ for him: “It was all very fast”

AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has described his debut as a ‘moment of pride’ as he made two vital interventions in the win over Hellas Verona last Sunday.

The summer signing from Schalke was decisive as he saved the Rossoneri from conceding an equalising goal twice with two incredible blocks that essentially ensured the three points would be coming back west.

The first was in the 87th minute when Thiaw stopped a very powerful shot from Depaoli that seemed destined for the roof of the net, while the second was in the 89th minute when the former Schalke man stopped one from a narrow angle that also could have crept past everyone and in as Tatarusanu floundered.

Thiaw spoke during an interview with SportMediaset on the eve of Milan’s home match against Monza at San Siro which could provide a chance for the German U21 international to make his home debut, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

On the blocks in Verona: “It was a moment of pride for me. I had just come onto the field, it was all very fast. I entered the field and I thought about helping the team to keep winning the game. It went well, we won and I’m very happy with my debut.”

On the song from the fans: “It was very very funny. Even some players in Germany sang it for me sometimes as a joke, but it’s a nice song.”
