Malick Thiaw has agreed personal terms with Newcastle United, but AC Milan remain unopen to selling him at present.
A few weeks ago, it seemed as though Thiaw would be leaving Milan but not to move abroad, and rather to seal a €25m switch to Como. However, he turned down the approach from Cesc Fabregas’ side, even though the clubs had agreed a fee.

In recent days, the German has been at the centre of attention again. Newcastle United are believed to be keen on signing him again, having been previously linked, while Juventus have been credited with interest too.
Now, according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany – who also cites his colleague Patrick Berger – Newcastle have reached a full verbal agreement with Thiaw on a contract until 2029.
Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing, but Massimiliano Allegri is keen to keep him at Milan. The latest offer stood at €30m, while he adds that Bayer Leverkusen are monitoring the situation.
Allegri’s stance
The reliable Matteo Moretto pretty much perfectly outlined what Milan and Allegri’s stance is on selling Thiaw, making it clear that around double the previously accepted €25m will be needed to sign him.
“Thiaw has become an important piece for Allegri. Today Allegri wants Thiaw to stay, and Milan certainly values him above €30m. I’m told that, unless there are truly out-of-market offers, even exceeding €40-45m, Thiaw will stay at Milan,” he said.

We can’t keep a player that wants out, and agreeing personal terms with another team is quite clear of that. While I’d rather Tomori leave, it’s clear Thiaw wants an exit. But we really ought to demand 40-45 million.
Wait, Milan was ready to ship him out to Como for 25 million just a month ago! So, please don’t make it look like he’s the one who wants to leave. You send the wrong signals to players. If he had agreed, he would have been in Como now.
Now you want Newcastle to cough up 40 million. Yet you were insulting Club Brugge over 2 million. But you’ve jumped from a 25 million valuation to over 40 million.
well , i think we had the right to insult 2million since jashari hasnt been as proved as thiaw, for 39M euros. lets not forget Thiaw is maybe our best defender/most potential . and different managers = different playstyles. you cant try argue negotiating 2 million euroes over jashari since he was only 6m euros last yer , thiaw more of that 25 -30 million valuation

I thought we rejected their offer so why would we have allowed discussion with the player?

Ardon Jashari has 4 years left on his contract. So the length of the contract doesn’t matter, as long as the purchasing club can match the selling club’s valuation.
No, a club cannot directly approach a player under contract with another club to offer a new contract without the permission of the player’s current club. This is known as “tapping up” and is a violation of football regulations. Clubs must first notify the player’s current club before engaging in any discussions with the player.
This is an internet response so can’t say 100% for certain, but Milan had agreement with Brugge to discuss with the player I assume, Brugge were negotiating a higher fee with Milan.
In Thiaw’s negotiation, that was with Como, Newcastle have come in new. We immediately rejected ted their £30M offer (regardless of what happened with Como), so I am unsure how Newcastle would have been given permission to speak with Thiaw.

You want to sound like you know stuff but it goes down the toilet when you fail to realize that clubs aren’t allowed to contact players without consent from the owning club first when there’s years left of the contract. Just like you were educated by Ed above. 🙂
Please increase up to 40m & the player already agreed with salary + bonuses, so Milan have enough time to buy another CB.
That is not an excuse milan always have agreement with players before negotiating transfer deal with clubs
To be fair to Tare, I don’t think he made the choice about which players to put in the market. I think the management decided and told him which players to sell. So, the initial attempt to sell off Thiaw without the incoming coach getting a chance to evaluate the players.
With what Milan has gone through with Club Brugge, and Strasbourg, Thiaw will not leave for an amount sufficient to sign Leoni, as his replacement. It doesn’t make any sense. Also, Allegri has to give the green light. However, if Newcastle’s offer is good enough for Milan to get Leoni, with every other Italian club pulling back now, management will not be in the way of Thiaw’s move. Now, it’s up to Newcastle.

I’m pretty sure Furlani says yes to anyone asking for a permission to contact a Milan player about a possible transfer. He might even encourage them to do so.
Given the way Milan ownership seem to be treating Milan solely as a business to make money you are probably correct.

That would be a fair response if Thiaw goes to Milan management and begs to be sold only to Newcastle, saying he wishes to play for nobody but them etc.
That, so far as we are aware, has not happened.
