Malick Thiaw has confirmed that he is leaving AC Milan, speaking to reporters while arriving for his flight to England.
The German is all set to join Newcastle United in a deal worth €40m including bonuses, and it will bring an end to three years at Milan, having joined from Schalke 04 after the Scudetto-winning 2021-22 season.

Thiaw spoke to the journalists present including our own Luca Maninetti, reflecting on the time that he spent with the Rossoneri.
“These three years have been a pleasure. I’ve learned so much. I’ve grown as a player but also as a person. My fondest memory? I think the trip to the Champions League semi-finals. I’m happy with my choice; it was a pleasure.”

Have some respect; he’s been a good servant of the club, been a good pro and never said a bad word. He’s got caps for Germany and helped us to a UCL final, two UCL qualifying league campaigns and a Coppa Italia final. He’s played well enough that a richer club than us are buying him for a big value.
Respect for Thiaw and I wish the best for him in future. I think he’ll benefit from playing alongside a proper leader in Botman and not coincidence that he looked his best alongside Kjaer for us.
We move on, the price is fair and there’s no guarantee we’ll find an improvement, but no ill will to the player.

He was a decent player with a decent skill set, but he lacked the subtle nuances required (the little dirty tactics that made seria a defences best in the world, ala’ Baresi, Nesta, Carnavaro, Bergomi, Vierchwod etc) the PL is better suited for him, chase the ball run forward then quickly run back and jump as high as you can.
Who could have believed Thaiw, Musah and Morata could have brought in nearly €80 – 85m, crazy market
He made too many mistakes so I was in agreement to sell him but…
Have to admit buying for under €10mn and selling for almost 4x , while having an ok CB rotation option in the squad on low wages is, great business from Milan (for once lol!)
He is a good defender with room for improvement. I support his sales cuz his own goal cost Milan some crucial point past seasons.

He improved a bit from when he arrived. He seemed a little stiff and had injuries at the beginning. Good luck w the barcodes. Glad we’re bringing in a player w Italian experience.

Big up to these players who came through the front door, served without complaining and then leave through the front door. Your respect for the Rossoneri is commendable…more than we can say for some of our so called bigger names that wiped the floor with us when they left through the back doors in the last couple of seasons (Calha, Kessie, Dollarumma…).
I have mixed feelings about this. Like Kalulu, it’s a great deal financially but both are young, did well with us, and have shown they can bounce back from bad patches of form and improve. Our best center back pairing under last season was Thiaw and Gabbia under Fonseca. It remains to be seen if he is effectively replaced. This management has a terrible track record but, with Tare and Allegri, seem to be doing better this transfer window. I like how Allegri is giving youth players a chance in friendlies.
There are still many question marks around the squad though. What will become of Okafor, Chuk, Musah, Bondo, and Terracciano? Even Gimenez hasn’t been given guarantees. Will he be content as a sub? Why have all the outcasts been given chances but not Bennacer and Adli? Is the de-Maldinification of the team a real thing?
Anyways, everything will become clear five to seven matches into the season.
