Thiaw ‘very happy’ after Milan’s defensive display against Roma: “We talked a lot”

By Isak Möller -

Malikc Thiaw was one of the keys for AC Milan in their 2-1 win over Roma this evening, helping the Rossoneri defend well while down to ten men. After the game, he shared his thoughts with the media.

Thiaw was voted the best defender along with Theo Hernandez in our player ratings, getting a 6.5/10. His centre-back colleague Fikayo Tomori got a 5.5 after receiving a red card, making things difficult for the Rossoneri.

After the game, Thiaw spoke to DAZN (via MilanNews) about the win and explained how the Rossoneri players talked to each other, avoiding another 2-2 draw (as suffered last season). He also spoke about Milan’s rivals at the top.

How much pressure do you want to put on Napoli and Inter?

“We are very happy for today, even after the red card we remained united. The season is still long, but obviously we are happy after these 3 wins in 3 games.”

How was facing Lukaku for you?

“It’s not easy to defend individually, as always we have to defend as a team and we did well.”

How were the last minutes of the game?

“It wasn’t easy to defend, we remained calm and also talked a lot. Last year, in January, we didn’t talk to each other and we conceded a draw despite being 11 against 11.”

Milan will face Inter after the break and Thiaw will be very important at the back, especially given Tomori’s suspension. It remains to be seen if he will partner up with Simon Kjar or Pierre Kalulu.
