Thiaw proves Pioli wrong and puts summer signings in a new light

Malick Thiaw was one of AC Milan’s best players in the win against Torino and it looks like he has earned himself a starting spot moving forward. His performances have also put the other summer signings in a new light.

More or less since the summer mercato came to an end, the management and the ownership have been criticised by the Milan fans for the signings made. Thiaw’s recent displays, however, have put the signings in a new light.

The German hasn’t played much this season but Stefano Pioli gave him the chance off the bench in the derby. He impressed, and in combination with Fikayo Tomori’s absence, he was able to secure himself a starting spot against Torino.

In our player ratings, he was named the MOTM and it’s clear that he has a lot of potential. Pioli’s reluctance to give him more chances earlier in the season can now be questioned, just like his treatment of the other signings.

One could argue that Charles De Ketelaere has got a decent amount of chances at least, but the likes of Aster Vranckx and especially Yacine Adli really haven’t. Playing time might be the solution to understand the summer signings better.

  1. OMG. Why are you making up the same thing that didn’t happen? When was the time for Thiaw to play actually? When? We had 2 good defenders playing and one on the bench, who was supposed to be dropped? Tomori or Kalulu??

    1. Either one as they both played like crap. Old merits should count for nothing when the players are underperforming. You EARN the spot in the starting 11 (and not by last season’s performances).
