Rumours about potentially big changes in AC Milan’s structure over the summer have been doing the rounds for over a week now.
In fact, it’s partly why Massimiliano Allegri – in agreement with his staff and the squad – decided to enforce another training retreat to prepare for their final match of the season against Cagliari. It is a crucial match to earn Champions League qualification, and Allegri wants to limit the external noise.

According to Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Gerry Cardinale will once again be alongside Allegri’s side and should attend the game. The club’s owner knows just how important these next 90 minutes are in determining the future.
The post-Furlani era
Cardinale is not expected to leave immediately after the match, unlike other occasions when he has visited to see a game. The feeling is that he could stay in Milan for a few days to speak with the various figures around the club.
One of the most anticipated discussions is undoubtedly the one with Giorgio Furlani, who is close to leaving. In fact, a casting call is already underway to find his replacement, which according to reports is being led by Massimo Calvelli.
Who are the candidates? Giovanni Carnevali – the current CEO of Sassuolo – seems to be one. Adriano Galliani held the same role for over 30 years under Silvio Berlusconi, and he is another. Claudio Fenucci of Bologna starts a bit behind, but is in the race too.
Cardinale will also speak to sporting director Igli Tare, who seemed certain to leave AC Milan. However, after attending last Sunday’s match in Genoa, the owner was able to see in the dressing room how cohesive the team thanks to Allegri and Tare.
There is also great curiosity about the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who – contrary to what has been written and said in recent weeks – is not expected to have more influence at Milan. However, he could be more involved in commercial projects to develop the brand.
Cardinale will make any decisions only after the Cagliari match, as qualification for the Champions League must be secured at all costs.
